Pictures of my HIDs *56K Die in a fire*

Car: 97 Nissan Maxima
HIDs: Mercedes e55 projectors (Hella Bi-xenons)
Cost: $350

All I have is daytime pictures right now. Beam pattern shots will be taken this weekend as I still have to aim my passenger headlight outwards more, but they work GREAT. And best of all they're 100% legal!

Oh I guess not everyone read the other post that I was in. Ok well I am NOT doing a writeup. I realized about half way through this that there is no step by step instructions on how to do this. I just flew by the seat of my pants and cut ans formed as I went. There will never be a write up for actually installing the projectors. I DO have a wiring writeup however. But I will answer ANY questions anyone has about installing them.

Oh, I guess I didn't see that post. Looks great though, interested in seeing the night pictures as well.

Where did you pick up the Mercedes projectors? Salvage yard?

Good job. Just to let you know though, any modification to a vehicles lighting is in fact illegal. In this case, I think they could complain about the lights not having an auto leveling system, which if I'm not mistaken, is required on vehicles equipped with HID's.

Nope. Very FEW vehicles are equipped with auto leveling systems. Even vehicles with HIDs are 99% manual adjustment. This system is in fact 100% legal. Putting HID bulbs in your stock refelctor housings is illegal, this, is not. Trust me I did a lot of homework on this before I did it.

yes I have a few questions.
1 how long did it take you?
2 if you were doing it a second time, how long would it taske you?
3 I live 100 miles from you (I drove to new haven a few times already) would you be willing to do this modification. (again?) not now but only by the end of summer? august?

man haha, those look awesome. everytime i see a thread about HIDs, i want them more and more. i thought hte law was that there could not be any front facing blue bulbs, and that HID bulbs in stock housing is fine. or at least thats what i was told at my local performance shop.

Wait, why would these be illegal? Isn't selling HID kits illegal, not owning them? If you had them before the stupid law was passed they can't do anything to you. Even if you can't prove when you bought them they can't just give you a damn ticket.

Thanks guys for all the compliments, I'll try and answer these questions one at a time.

Time to install from start of wiring to sealing up my headlights for good was probably around 20 hours. If I was to do it again it would probably take me half that.

I would be willing to HELP on this modification again, I don't really want to do the entire thing for some one but I will most certainly help.

Yes I'm sticking with my orange corners, I am NOT getting clears.

HID bulbs in the stock housing is NOT fine. Whoever told you that should be shot. It causes EXTREME amounts of glare and is wicked illegal. When you put a projector in and contain all the light, it is legal.

I got my projectors from a seller on ebay. He is a really great guy with an awesome reputation. His ebay user ID is ptcfactoryoutlet and his email address is ptcfact@bellsouth.net His name is Dave and if you want projectors from him tell him Matt and Vathana sent you.

Selling HID kits with no projectors is illegal. Selling HID kits WITH projectors is legal.

WIRING DIAGRAM IS HERE: http://131.128.161.202/~store/wiring.html

007max yes they do look like yours.

Ok so I think thats it, keep the questions rolling!

Ok I just found out in MY state it isn't legal. In some there are. Thats where the confusion comes from. However, you'll never get pulled over for doing this because it aims the light exactly where it should. With a HID bulb in the stock housing you're very likely to get pulled over because you blind oncoming traffic.

Ok here are some night shots. It's the first time I've actually looked at them at night. I was half on the driveway half on the grass in the second picture, so that's why it looks out of wack heh

What needs to be done:
Drivers side needs to be rotated ever so slightly.
Passenger side needs to be moved to the right a bunch.
They need to come down.
My lenses need to be CLEANED holy CRAP are they scratched and dirty.

All of this will be taken care of this weekend, then they'll perfect.

I've got to do something with the front end but I'm not sure what yet. At night, the headlights are bright bright white with the fogs and corners yellowish. In the day time my headlights look almost black because of the black shroud, and the foglights and corners are very clear. So I don't know what I'm going to do yet, but I'll figure something out.

I would not recommend smoking the stock ambers, especially if you're going to use VHT Nite Shades, since the visibility of turn signals would be compromised. But they do look hot.

formz when you bought the e55 projectors of eBay were all the parts necessary to pefform the retrofit included in the package (i.e. projectors, ballasts, bulbs, shrouds)?

what i'm gonna try is tinting the insides of the clear corners and corner lights with some tail-light tint spray cause i dont want to 'AE' mod them with black spraypaint because thats way too dark for my taste

If you painted the inside of the housing black would it still be illegal? Or would the lens of the housing still produce glare? I also have to disagree on painting the DCs. I tinted miney with niteshades, 5 or 6 coats followed by 3 coats of clear the next day. The light output is much better even during the day. The contrast between the bulb and the housing is great. Kep in mind i was SMART enough not to completely black them out.

what the hell are you talking about Big D?? the point of projectors is to focus the light...not use the housing's reflection properties...

mm347: Actually even with your tinted signals it doesn't look like it degrades the output of them by that much. However I think I'm going to leave my orange corners the way they are.
Also the ebay auction for $350 was just for the projectors, bulbs, ballasts, and igniters (all brand new). The shroud I made myself out of black anodized aluminum. And I had to buy a seperate headlight harness. All in all the whole retro costed me about $425 between the lights, harness, JB weld, silicone, nuts and bolts etc etc

nupe500 everything helped. All the information I got from you and hidforum helped me out tremendously.

Big D if you contain all the light into the projector there is no need to paint the housing black. You can see that in nupe500's picture that nearly all of the light is coming straight out of the projector. I myself wanted a little light to escape just because of personal preference. However, painting the housing flat black WILL reduce glare because it becomes a nonreflective surface.
