Port & polish and polished intake manifold...

Im just curious about how much a port and polish is, and what places do this. Im just askin because someone suggested it (have 137,000miles) b/c supposively helps a decent amount. And also, ive seen nice chrome polished intake manifolds, where and how much is it for that, or can you DIY? Thanks in advance

I asked around about that last summer and all the quotes to port and polish the heads were from $450 to $700. I didn't go to any street corner shops or anything, i checked at established machine shops (hense the high price, cus i've heard of peeps doing P&P as low as $250, but I doubt for our engine). They told me the reason it'd be so much is becuase of the DOHC set up; they'd have to P&P 24 passages and it'll take a while to finish. I think the fastest time they told me was 2 days; I don't see why they couldn't do it in just one day, since I'd be taking them the heads anyways, they wouldn't have to disassemble anything, but w/e, it's Miami).
As far as how much they'd help, I hear many different opinions. I myself think that a P&P becomes more effective as more mods are done to the engine; the higher the airflow in and out of the engine, the more that the P&P would shine. HP and TQ figures, I'm not sure about and I don't do estimates, but it would definately increase the response of the engine and make it smoother, especially with a 3-angle valve job. I doubt the benefits from it would show as much as UDP or an Aluminum flywheel would.
Some people here on the org have had their factory intake manifolds chromed, I myself have never seen aftermarket chrome intake manifolds for the 4th Gen Max.

wow, that much for a P&P, im young and cant waste that much for a tune up type of mod. But im not saying an aftermarket chromed manifold, im just saying getting it polished, powder coated, whatever it is some people have done. So if anyone has anything on polished, chromed, whatever you call it intake manifold, just give me some details.

If yo don't have the $ for it, then forget it. It won't do squat. And for polishing the OUTSIDE of the manifold, that's purely for looks.

If you are on a budget, concentrate on keeping your car running/looking right. Or concentrate on mods that actually do something.

You can do it yourself if you have time on your hands just take a sander and go at it. My dads friend polished his wheels to like a chrome shine all by hand. So if you have time you can make it look nice!

I bet it would help if you had a MEVI... cuz our engine cant breathe at high RPM without the MEVI. And port/polished or extrude honed or whatever u call it would only help at high RPM..
