What is it about an intake that cause MAF failures?

are there no other compatible MAFs we can use that break down less often?

the whole idea of being stranded cuz i want some nice growling sound is really ridiculous. what really is the deal with the mafs and is it attributed to certain intakes?

nah, it seems 5.5th gen MAFs all suck azz...

AFAIK there are no aftermarket MAFs available unless you somehow rig another manufacturer's MAF to work somehow...

I finally cleaned my Injen CAI filter after almost 2yrs. That thing was nasty. Used the K&N filtercharger kit, and very lightly reoiled it. No problems so far (cross fingers).

one of my MAFs just died from WOT at around 6K RPMs with a Place Racing CAI. No vibrations no wheel hop just at around 6K RPM engine died like it hit a rev limiter. Other ones died from wheel hop. Maximas are not drag cars and I don't care what it runs in the 1/4 cause I don't like stop light races but roll ons. I'm pretty carefull bout wheel hop. One of my MAFs just shorted out completely and 2 other ones died from wheel hop. Few weeks ago I was working on a Maxima and took the MAF off- as carefully as I could, set it slowly on its side... 2 weeks later the MAF died. I think its a POS thats about it. Knock on wood my current- 5th MAF is working great but I'm not sure why my car is runing rich... I shoot out flames 3 feet long when I shift from 1st to 2nd when I am really getting on it. I am awaiting my wideband 02 sensor with J&S knock guard to tune out my A/F ratio on my S-AFCII. I'm not down on power or anything- as a matter a fact I'm happy with the power it makes... but I know there is 15WHP hidden somewhere If U wanna be MAF less- get a HKS VPC.

new to owning a 2k GLE. Is it simple to change the MAF? I assume it is right after the air filter and connects with a wire harness? Am I correct. BTW, have 51k on the car and just replaced the ignition coils, when will the I join the 5th maf club??!!
