Pickin up a Max...got a project ahead of me

Hey guys...I Just purchased my first maxima.

Awesome because Maxima (specifically 3rd gen) is one of my favorite cars on the road right now. Car had new breaks, new exhaust, motor mounts, rebuilt tranny, overall a lot of work done. Needs an engine (really bad knock). Fortunatly I got a 300ZX motor from an 86 NA to toss in there.

Some people told my father (Fred P) that one of the stickies has a write up about putting a 300ZX engine into a Maxima, but I couldn't find the one they were talking about. The closest thing I could find was about a Z32 VG30DETT...not really the same engine and not really much info about actually putting the engine in. Anybody have any knowledge in this field or could point me in the right direction?

I'm picking the car up tomorrow after I get out of work and I'll hopefully be pushing the 300ZX into the garage to get the engine out (that car has no reverse). This is probably the biggest challenge I've put myself up against as far as car things go so of course I'll be sure to try to document the whole thing on the internet

Gotta love cardomain.

the engine that most people would like to put into their 3rd gen is the vg30et. the vg30dett would be near impossible get working. besides the fact that the engine bay is too small for it, getting the wiring right would be another huge issue.
if i we're you i'd try and find the stock turbo for the vg30et and slap that on your vg30e (from the z car)
once you have that, it'll be worth while to put that into your 3rd gen.
there's quite a few members on here that will be able to show you the right information to getting a vg30et swap done on your 3rd gen. so goodluck dude!

since you are not talking about turboing it (using a NA motor) it is just a straight drop in I would think. You will probably have to use your intake manifold and there may be some sensor differences but it should be pretty straight forward.

Just label all the sensors and take pics before you do anything so you will be able to go back together with it.

Good luck.
