Intake idea, don't think this has been done...
What do you guys think of this?
If you have a short-ram... Instead of switching to a CAI, how about removing the front driver's fog, then fabricating some kind of scoop/tube that runs from the light opening, to the fender wall (where you'd cut for a CAI)... That way you can keep the filter away from water (I'm guessing it's somewhat safer than a CAI at least), but you're still funnelling in cold air in the same way...
Interested to see what do you guys think...

I'm running a set-up like this. I have a JWT pop-charger with the PR CAI piping feeding into the opening at the end of the filter. I put an elbow on the end of the piping in the fenderwell and ran it to the foglight opening. I need to get picks of it on my cardomain site. It's easier to look at pics than for me to try and explain it.
Cool!

How's it working out? Have you run any other intake set-ups? Does it compare well? Was it tough to fit everything in? Etc, etc...
Cheers

It works really well. Intake temps drop very quickly when you're moving. It used to take awhile for the temps to drop after a stoplight. It does get the filter dirty very quickly though. Thank goodness for washable filters.
Fitment wasn't bad. I had to cut the PR pipe a little to get it to sit where I wanted it. I took the front tire and fender lining off to put the elbow in there.

I'm not sure if steel mesh filters can be cleaned... Maybe putting some paper filter material at either end of the 'scoop' would keep it clean?

I had an old roomate that had a jeep wrangler.. for sake of argument I will call this process jersefication.. (no offense to NJ people) you just would have had to met this guy. anyway. he used the top half of his stock airbox and ran two different sets of the piping you use for dryers.. the siler stuff. down to the front under the bumper and kept them just out of sight with two metal clothes hangers bent up. the ends of these were cut to match up with eachother and the stock air box and taped up with a healthy heaping of WV chrome.. 100 mile per hour silver tape. he claims it made a huge difference with a k&N drop in filter.
right now i have a popl charger from ebay. that sits in my stock bottom half of the air box. i figured when i moved the channel from the front would push the hot air away from the filter and allow it to work better. im not sure if it does.. but it sounds sweet and does make a little difference..

96maxWV - nitrous purge doesnt make ANY difference whether it's in front, side, or rear of the car. Apparantly you dont fully know what it's for.
Steel filters...it's gona be preference. I personally have K&N mesh/foam. But the steel is just for looks. They do the same thing and sound about the same.

yeah.. i have no idea.. but i was using the word "purge" as saying like you purge your exhaust fumes out the back of the car through the exhaust pipe. I just wondered why he spent so much time wiring it to the front. thats all.. is there a benefit to this or is this just where he put it..

I don't have search (keyword: thermo couple (sp?)).. but I did do some research on air temperature and their locations. And guess what, the pop charger gets near ambient air without any pipes. This happens only when in motion though. At a stoplight it will slowly heat up to the engine temp, but once you start moving it cools off pretty quick.
Injen CAI sitting behind the radiator is just a constant warm/hot air. Never EVER cooling down to ambient.

NO offense but.......
Some guys have been modding their 4th Gens for more than 5 years and many have tried all kinds of little ideas. I did a mod that I never posted, I first did this 3 years ago, I cut a circular hole at the bottom of the intake resevior (with a dremmel) inserted 2 inch tubing from a vacuum cleaner and attached it to a scoop the sits in the lower grill (worked very well on high end) and it is invisible. Inclimate weather I would seal the opening to the scoop with a tennis ball I colored black. I have this setup on my I30 but it is useless currently because I have a CAI, but I am going back to stock soon.

why would you wnat to remove a fog for a intake when you could just put it in the frontbottom of teh grill?
now if i did not have a fog then i would see maybe doing it....keep the fog light buddy, and think of another idea of where to put it,
