Changed oil and SES light is off now????
Ok this car is going to make me crazy!
For many of you who been emailing me about the P1040 problem(o2 sensor failure),i know alot of us have been doing alot of trial and error with this problem and we have been constantly updating each other about solutions. As many of us know , many have taken it to the dealer to get a reflash or just changed the o2 sensor to alleviate the SES problem. I spoke to another Maxima owner thats not on this .org he recomended just change the oil before i shell out any type of cash to the dealer. He said the ECU is very finiky when the oil is dirty, and the polutant levels from the oil are read within a strict tolerance. -Not my words his.....
So inturn it throws the SES light on. Well i said what the hell and before i was going to shell out 150 bucks each for two 02 sensors ,i'll spend 40 bucks for a oil change and see what happens. I have been using Amsoil since day one of ownership of my Max. I usually run 15,000 miles before a oil change, Amsoil recommends every 25,000 miles.I had 20 k miles from my last oil change when i changed it last Saturday.
After the oil change, i reset the ecu light and till this day i a m happy to say the light is off!
Before the oil change two weeks ago i spent 75 dollars to have the ECU reflashed and my SES light still came on a few hours after the reflash.
I am not saying this is a guarante fix for the P1040 (faulty rear bank 1, slow response o2 sensor) but hey its worth a try before shelling out big bucks for new 02 sensors.

15k will do give you problems. Here is your first problem, you are buying into what they tell you. I am sure if they said you could go 75k without a change using their "MegaSyn" line someone out there will do it and complain when stuff falls apart.
Further, the SES will go off on it's own if the malfunction doesn't re-occur. You don't need to reset it unless you are selling the car tomorrow..... when i trigger mine on purpose it takes about a week for it to go off, sometimes less. It is dependant on the number of engine starts as well as this is when the system runs a self check.
