timing chaine sliped
So the chain slipped a tooth?
Might as well buy a new engine. Pretty cheap, www.ebay.com or www.car-part.com

yea, thats what my mechanic said -"could be reasonable could be a money pit" he's taking the engine apart to see what kind of damage im looking at, but its a f'in sh!tty luck
this happened in the last two months :
new starter, ignition switch, knock sensor, flat tire, rebuild trany. My car spends more time in the shop than i do driving it...

Usually if hte chain skips a tooth, you would feel ALOT of vibrations everywhere. I have never read about a case where hte chain broke or slipped or skipped a tooth. I do know that hte tensioner goes bad though.
It is very uncommon for a timing chain to skip. If the tensioner or guide broke than there could be enough slack to allow it to slip. I think that the maxima has a non interference engine so that the pistons won't slap the valves but im not 100% sure. If it only skipped a tooth and didn't break than there should not be any damage.
If you are going to fix it, than replace the water pump while you are in there since it is driven by the timing chain.

the tension was ok actually when i drove it but then it wouldnt start at all, the mech. say's the chain came off, but now i need to wait till tommorow, when he takes it apart to see the complete list of the damages.
The VQ30DE/all VQs for that matter ARE INTERFERENCE engines... so a broken chain will cause valve damage.
I am guessing your tensioner was weak (some 95/96s have this problem from the factory)... and that let the chain slip a tooth... not sure if a slipped tooth will cause enough of a timing mislalignment to bend anything... we'll know soon enough.
Good luck and keep us posted.
