Those going for reasonably long intervals - do you change the oil filter half way?

I'm thinking of going 8-10k with mobil 1. How essential is the oil filter change, really? Schedule 2 in the manual says 7500 for oil and filter - and that's conventional oil.

you should change the filter about 1/2 way into that 8-10k.

The filter will always wear out before any synthetic oil. This is a must if you are planning on going longer drain intervals. Once the filter is clogged up, it no longer filters the oil. This is why it needs to be changed before the oil. Will only require a small top off on the oil once the filter is replaced.
