The Home Depot Mod King Strikes Again...

I took a sick day, but was getting a little bored so decided to take care of something - since I've had my intake in and the stock air box out there is a huge empty space in the engine bay that for some reason annoys me. So I decided to make a little "platform" so to say, to accomplish 3 things:
1. Get rid of that big empty space
2. Create a new mounting point for that plug/sensor (??) that hangs off the stock air box (and was just hanging there with the air box/scoop out of there)
3. Place to put stickers that is not on the outside of the car (Until falken, maxspeed, tokico, etc. start sponsoring me (yeah right) I'm not gonna advertise for them - but no harm in some under-hood decoration, right?

so, using a piece of cardboard I made a template of how I wanted it to look, then traced the form over plexiglass that was sitting in my basement. As you can see, there are some things sticking up and "in the way" that require cutouts for (including the coolant hose coming out of th radiator). Did the cutout using a jig saw (didn't work too well since I had the wrong blade), and also used a dremel with a bunch of cutitng/sanding attachments (also didn't work that well)...but eventually got it all cut out, sanded, painted, clearcoated, etc...it's mounted to the front lip of the engine compartment using cut-down anchor screws (normally used for screwing into hollow walls/drywall)....
so here it is -

That's a whole lot of work that I would probably never do. On the other hand, why did you take off the stock air scoop?

without the stock air box there, all the scoop is doing is dumping dirt, bugs, road grime, etc. into my engine bay (believe me, you can see where it comes out)...besides, since it's only held in place by those two little plastic screws, it rattled around alot once the stock air box was gone. And again, I did it for looks to....I don't like the scoop there if it's not doing anythign useful.

as to the whole lot of work - like I said, I took a sick day from work and was bored - I did all this with stuff I had sitting around the basement/workshop so it was free...just something to pass the day, and building things is always fun (even though half the time the things I build turn out kind of wierd )

isn't there a sensor or something plugged into that air scoop? i put my intake on the other day and was going to pull that piece out too, but it looked like something was plugged into it, so i left it.

It looks like a radiator shroud. TET makes a CF one for the 4th gens. I brain is too tired to remember what they're good for tho, other than looking cool.

yes, it's the air temperature sensor. But with an aftermarket intake, the ATS plugs into the midpipe now......the thing that's screwed tothe top of the scoop has nothing to do with the scoop itself, its some other sensor that's just mounted there for convenience I guess. As you can see, I have it mounted in pretty much the same place on my cover thingy....

Yeah, I believe the radiator shroud is there to redirect the fans' air or something. Ihave a shroud on my Triumph's radiator....I just did this thing for looks, I'll admit it. Oh, and it adds 25 whp too

You should make a similar cover that bolts onto the spare bolt threads near the intake manifold and valve cover...
although I dunno how acrylic holds up to intense heat... or what it would do if it melted all over the wiring

not exactly what I had in mind...but it's a start. to do it the way i want to do it, would take more $$ and more time, both of which I don't have at the moment. This was the "prototype" so to say....second attempt (maybe this winter) will be alot cleaner.....

anyways, not looking for any "props" on this and if ya don't like it, fine by me....I'm just trying to throw some new ideas out there - seems like the org is getting a little short on interesting ideas recently.....every thread is talking about rotors or MAF these days.....

This is actually a fine way to post all your "stickers" without it being blatant ... just put it on this little "trim cover" under the hood!

that's exactly what I was thinking.....only time people would see the stickers is when at a meet or at the track with the hood open, not plastered all over the car like I'm in NASCAR or something In fact those stickers I stuck on there just for the photo (to give definition to the piece) - they're actually ski company stickers and I took em off already...gotta dig around for my falken, stillen, apexi, etc.. stickers that are in a drawer somewhere (?)

Josh you should now add some gutter spouts on the side and have them run off the rain gutters from the roof...... You are Mr. Home Depot

i wanted to do it to clean up the engine bay. kinda like most german made cars where all you see is the top of the engine. plus i can put the stickers i have (warpspeed, etc)
plus in the future if i get any "performance goodies" they will be hidden
