I finally got around to installing the Blehmco Kit( with 04 Irotors Slotted )after realizing I didn't have a tool kit and a wheel lock key. So I got all those, a new wheel lock kit and started the Blehmco Kit install.

Getting the caliper off took a 2.5 ft rachet bar and a sh*t load of torque but it finally came off. Installed the kit on the right side of the car...and moved on the other side...this is where I ran into a problem. I got the caliper off installed the relocation bracket but then I realized the holes didn't line up properly(it was about 1/16 off - longer) with the caliper. That was enough to cause cross threaded...after trying to get the hole widened with much failure. I ended up buying a dremel to widened the whole a little bit...After that the install was straight forward...If you read this Matt I defintely think the whole should be widened a 1/16..

Here are the pics...the rims are dirty from the zinc coating...I'll post and update after I have bedded the rotors

hmm, very strange. first time I've heard of the holes not lining up properly. I'd like to see some pics of it if you could, but I realize it's already on the car. thanks for bringing it to my attention though.

I'll be sure to have a chat with the fab shop on those pieces, as I have a shop laser cut them for me and I do the rest of the work.. In the last batch I had run, I noticed a couple of them had about 0.1" more metal on one side of the holes, but it didn't change the bolt clearance. this is very strange since it's all laser cut from the machine in a batch process.. I'll make sure to measure the rest of the parts I have in stock.

 

that or someone got a little lazy with the laser machine

 

I wouldn't be surprised if nissan did some changes between the production series.

 

I'd get a bigger pad and caliper to get full use of the bigger rotors. Looks like about a 1/2 or more of the rotor not even being touched

 

the 2k4 caliper uses pads that are only about 1/4" 'taller' than the 5th gen pads. the 6th gen pads don't cover much more total swept area than the 5th gen. I've also seen many other brake systems that use even less (i.e. the 13" cobra rotors used in some other brake kits).... and I'm not talking about Jeff's bolton kit. I'm talking about the factory system from Ford on them. there's MUCH more unswept area on those rotors than on this system. not really a big deal.

 

what are your reviews on the performance of the brake kit so far?

 

i've got about 250 miles on the rotors so they're still bedding i'm gonna wait until about 500 to really get on them hard...so far easy braking from 80 mph is smooth whereas before it wasn't...as soon as my rotors are bedded i'll repost...

 

I have the full blown Z system on mine and it has had ZERO issues. I have about 3K (or so) on it now. Had it on since March.

I had to do the front brakes on my wifes Ford Focus this past weekend and just happened to compare the front pads of a stock Nissan Maxima 2K1 and a Ford Focus 2K2 Se. The FORD pads were about 20% LARGER than the Maxima pads. No joke. The pads on the maxima are WAY small and I am believing more and more about Matts theory on PAD size being a large contribution to the warpage.

So far no warpage and good pedal.

 

I'm with Colonel. Matt's 300ZX front system with ZERO problems also. I've got about 8k miles on the fronts. FYI, I've also had ZERO problems with Matt's rear brake kit. Got about 3k miles on it. Plus, the bling, bling factor with 300ZX calipers and the bigger rotors both front & rear is

 

Look at your own rotors. There is a big area of used rotor also. You don't notice it because the part that doesn't get swept, rusts.
