Bypassing Transponder Key?

Is it possible to bypass the transponder/chipped key interface so I can use regular hardware-store-cut keys? Thanks.

That would make life way too easy for the rest of us 99ers. I'd like to know as well, just in case I ever lose my key.

As of right now though, I doubt it. I am sure there must be a way but we need some of the electrical members to post in here.

Try to dissconnect the immobilizer. First hte Nats IMMU. If no go, then try the ASCD unit. If still no go dissconnect all 3--Nats Ant Amp, IMMU, and ASCD. Try different combos and see which one works.

I'm sure it's possible. As for the level of difficulty it depends if the transponder is integrated with the module that controls all electrical operations (not the ecu, but the other thing pcm?!) or if it's just integrated into the steering column. If it's the latter. It should be quite easy to bypass; not that I've ever done it. =)

Ive heard of getting an extra programmed trans key and cut off the actual key part (so no one can steal your car if they know its there or find it) and attach it under your plastic pannel right by where you put your key into ignition. I guess it still will read the chip and think that you have a programmed key. it has to be close enough to be read though.

Has anyone tried the cutting key thing? That would suck if it didn't work after destroying a 30 to 40 dollar key.

Yes you can do that, it is what you do if you want remote start. But if you can dissconnect the NVIS system all together, you can use hte ECU upgrades from JWT and Technosquare.
