Purchase a 88 max and having issues

I just purchase a nice 88 Max for $600.00 in NJ. Now I see that the Electronic Suspension in not working. Is there anything that I should check before looking to replacing the suspension with KY's. Is there a sensor or valve that needs looking at. I looked and looked and looked and can't even find the air pump. Well this is my second max, the other was a 2000 and I traded it in for a Dodge Durango (I know I know hush). The next issues is the gauges, everything works except for the speedo and odometer. Any ideals on what I should be looking for. The next is the passenger side front window will not work from the driver or passenger switch.

I need to replace the radio and speaker. I want to get some rims, what is the biggest I can go. I like the 5 lug conversion, but I didn't see the listed of parts I need to get. In NJ I see 2 on my block and if I get some rims, I don't want them missing.

Please help the refound Maxima guy.

call me neurotic, but can you describe your new investment? last year I gave up my 88 and I know someone out there has her. I keep hoping that the owner will show up on the org some time.

anyway, about the shocks, you may as well forget it. I'll bet the "S-N-F" on the selector switch flashes constantly? these shocks are controlled electronically, not pneumatically, through a controller in the trunk. mine never worked, and from what I've gathered, the only place they're available from is a Nissan dealer. yes, I'd have liked to have that feature working but I wasn't gonna pay that. I'd just spring for the KYBs. (no pun intended.)

for the speedometer and odometer, check the cable leaving the transmission, and the cable where it enters the back of the instrument cluster. power windows... the problem can be isolated. I'd suspect a bad connection at the motor. you can accomplish a lot with a circuit tester, a wiring diagram and a good understanding of ohm's law.

you sir got ripped off i paid just $450 for an '88 with the same problems

just kidding man

i'm not too worried about my suspension not working ( i didn't even know that it had an adjustable suspension when i bought it) it rides fine the way it is and i have no plans to fix it

as far as the speedo / odometer not working i agree that gets really annoying. mine actually goes in and out intermittently. i'd say the speedo works 25% of the time but the 'rolling' odometer still doesnt work. if you gind the cause of the problem i'd like to know

damn, she made it across the country? I'm almost proud to see my loved ones succeeding in life, instead of rusting away in some junkyard or even worse.... the unthinkable... crushed into a small cube

even though I no longer have the car, it hurts me to think about it....

Well my newly investment is black with a crack sunroof. Last time it was register in the State of NJ was in 2004 (inspection sticker). Look like it is suppose to be gray interior, but is tan (dirty). Besides that nothing out of the ordinary. 5 speed stick.

Well I am attend Automotive school and have a general knowledge of automotive repairs. My first day of class, the teacher offer us the best tool availible and that is asking somebody if they had the same problem and finding out how they repaired it.
Same time and money. Now that didn't happen, I have to use my knowledge and skill that I have learn to repair my ride. Ohm's Law, r divide by e/i yeah I know it.

I have to break out the ohm meter and going to purchase the Chilton book on Friday to help me out. I would like to buy the Dealer Service Manual, if I can find one.

When I first got the car the lights was blinking, but after riding they stopped blinking That was when I first purchased the car, I had it for 5 day and haven't blinked since. When I turn the **** it doesn't function, nothing happens, no noise, nothing. I haven't even gotten to look at the window yet. That will be my project tomorrow at school (shop night). I graduate in Dec., so everything is not fix by then will have to wait until next year or when I start working in a shop.

Thanks.

well mine was traded in, so it went to an auto auction. I'm in PA, not far from NJ, an hour at the most, so it's very possible it crossed the line. if you have my car, you can have her FSM.

I'm still in love with the max... the sentra might get jealous.... I remember when we were reunited when I got a new clutch put in her... she was so happy to get back on the road and tear it up again, putting civics and cavaliers to shame....

Oh yeah, when I first purchase her, I had to put on the highway to get home. And boy or boy. I could imaging what she was like when she was brand new. Mmmmmm!

Wow. things expensive in NJ. Here in middle of the Mississippi river valley I got my 88 last week for $500! Everything works all I had ro replace was right side rotor and caliper. The mud shield was pushed into rotor and had worn OFF the backside pad to the fins.
And parts of exhaust sytem replaced was $266. ouch.

Sure is, Whatever problem is wrong with it I can fix it, I am a auto mechanic. So it wouldn't be a problem for me. Have fun with it. I sure am. I there are more feature in the Max, than I have in my 2001 Pontiac Grand Am.
