key fob not working

I have a 1997 Maxima SE and my keyless remote stopped working last week and have no idea why. I figured the battery was not good so I changed it and it still doesn't work. About 2 weeks before this happened my "check engine" light came on but I didn't bring it to get checked because I am sure it is the oxygen sensor (original) since the car has 141,000 miles. The day the "check engine" light went out is the day the remote stopped working. Is this problem coincidental or is the problem related somehow? Anyone have ideas? Please let me know...

Thanks..

There's no reason to assume it's the O2's. Check for the codes (autozone will do it free, or you can do it yourself http://vbxmaxima.8m.com/ecu.html)

There are directions for reprogramming the remote in the faqs...try that.

I will check the codes to find the reason the "check engine" light came on... But my question was is there any relationship as to why my key fob stopped working when my "check engine" light turned off, after being on for about 2 weeks...

Thanks...

Oh, I misread that. Maybe there was no power for some amount of time (not sure how long it takes) which would have cleared the codes and could have some effect on the keyless system. I'd still say to try reprogramming it as per the instructions in the faq.

ooooh you meant the engine light turned off, when the key stoped working....
O don't know of any relation between these two.
maybe you did something else to your car, and can't remember right now. and that something else has trigger all the problems.
