rear tokico shock broke!!!

I have been using ground controls and tokico blues for the past year or so and they have been decent until now. today, i went over a small bump and then all of a sudden the passenger rear sunk down, it seemed like i had a flat tire.
after examination, we found that the part where the spring sits on the shock broke off right around the shock causing it to drop like 4 inches. has anyone else ever have this problem as well? i always thought that the part where the spring sits on the shock would be strongest. any ideas why this would happen???

pics to come soon.

tokico HP is not suitable for GC coilovers. upgrade ur rear to KYB agx or tokico illuminas.

Well, what broke on him is not really a funciton of the strut not being able to hand the sleeved coilovers. I imagine the weld on the perch is not any different on Illuminas than HP's.

Maybe constant bottoming out would be a factor?

i believe it's more like the strut wasn't BUILT to handle a coilover sleeve and it was built to handle a big wide spring that exerts the energy to the outter part instead in the center of the spring seat.

I agree, but my point was that the structure of an illumina or AGX is not any different than an HP or GR-2. It the valving that is different. So suggesting to switch to an Illumina would not "solve" this problem.
