cleaned idle control valve, now car's dead

Been having starting problems lately. Checked the codes coming from the car. The idle control was one of the many (knock sensor, cam sensor, crank shaft sensor).

I changed the cam sensor, crank sensor, but haven't touched the knock sensor (it didn't seem the knock sensor would have anything to do with the hard starting). I read on the forums about cleaning the idle control valve. I followed the procedure and now the car doesn't turn over at all.

The engine used to turn over and it would have trouble "catching", now there is no sound, almost like the security system is cutting ignition. I can't see how cleaning the Idle Control would create this problem, even if the idle control valve was totally gone the car should still try to turn over. Right?

Anyways, how do I reset or turn off the security system? Or could it be an entirely different problem?

-Thanks

To turn off the security system all you have to do is arm and then disarm. You can do this with the remote or just close the door, lock with the key, and unlock with the key.

i don't think it has anything to do with the security system......

trace your steps back... you must have disconnected something & not connected it back.....

I've taken apart the idle control valve apart twice. I checked every connection. I cleaned it with carb cleaner.

It is possible the I may have damaged the idle control valve when I took it apart. Is ist possible for the car to not turn over if the idle control was damaged??

I have unlocked and re-locked the car a couple times, but it didn't seem to do anything. Maybe its no the security system locking me out.

I just noticed the idle control valve makes a bit of whirring noise, like a gear turning or rather a gear jamming noise. Is that normal upon ignition?

I thought it was the battery at first. But I checked the battery with a multimeter and it read 12.5V and I just started it a little while ago.

It maybe the IACV I screwed up. Anywhere I can get a cheap one just to see if thats the prob? The dealer wants $200 for it.

Are you getting any clicks from the starter at all?

1a. Your car is in park right (if auto) - it could be the not-in-park inhibitor switch.
1b. If 5-spd you might have a bad clutch-is-pressed switch.
2. Give your starter a whack - and try starting it again - your starter might be on its way out.
3. Check all your fuses and try swapping your ignition relay (among others) with equivalent ones to see what happens.

If its not even turning over, its NOT your IACV.

The more I think about it, there is no way that the IAVC could do this. The starter doesn't even make a noise -no clicks, no whirring, dead silent. All I hear are a series of relays clicking under the drivers side foot well.

I think I'm going to test if the starter is getting any juice. But I have changed the starter about a year ago and I know exactly how that sounded (a click noise) when it went bad.

I've already tried to see if the car was out of park, but its in park. I'll check the fuses and relays.

Appreciate all the suggestions, the more ideas the better.

-thanks

Like I mentioned earlier - give the starter a tap (well a whack) and see what happens - btw where did you get the starter you replaced from?

I have got the whole IACV system if you want one.

if you got auto try to put the lever to neutral and then try to start the car... for some unknown reason sometimes my car wouldnt start until I put to neutral

if that doesnt work then that sounds like the starter is failing to do its job, maybe u dropped some liquid on it or something...
maybe it's a coicidence that it happened after you did the cleaning, but you mentioned that your starting up was difficult before, so probably the starter died.

Why are you using carb cleaner? I hope you don't use it to clean the throttle body or anything else inside the engine.

Same thing. We're not supposed to use carb cleaners on out cars.

Carb cleaner is too harsh for our TB's. The throttle plates are coated to help prevent them from gunking up, and carb cleaner can strip this coating. That's why TB cleaner is recommended for throttle plates.

Glad to hear you were able to get your car started again...

That won't work forever (the whacking of the starter) so either pick up a starter off the org and keep it ready -or pull yours and regrease it like shown on www.motorvate.ca - that way you aren't left stranded.
