What good is CAI --FOR REAL?

I understand the performance enhancement that Y pipes, B pipes and custom exhaust give the vehicle--they make it breathe better. The stock intake on my VE's comes out right behind the headlight and doesn't seem all that different from the pictures of all these CAI's I'm seeing. Really now, what kind of horsepower increase does the CAI provide? It seems overrated.

an open element/cone intake is over rated.

Your stock airbox is restrictive.

I seem to be the only person who, in all honesty, actually felt a pretty nice gain from my CAI. I felt just as much a gain if not more from my CAI than I did my y-pipe.

maybe your butt dyno isn't calibrated

just kidding...i track tested my CAI after the install..gained .1 at the track. woot. my best gains were from the Y-pipe and ECU

I definitely noticed a difference adding the cone filter after the y-pipe. I just have a straight mid-pipe and a cone filter. The midpipe added a lot more of a "growl" sound, but I don't really think it helped much, performance-wise.

I think if you have a less restrictive y-pipe, then the intake helps. You are getting more flow, overall.

Also, If you look at the stock airbox, it doesn't have much room to pull in air. That long tube that goes down behind the headlight is not open on the end.

If you have 125 get a place racing CAI. Check out the group deal section.

Does anyone have any proof of performance other than the uncalibrated "butt-dyno" ? How it "feels" can be influenced by expectations.

CAI does make gain, but not much as the others have said. back when i did it, i did notice it. it works more efficiently if it is used with other things. just adding a CAI only will not add much.

I have looked at these CAI's and do not for one see how they get cold air???? they are all still located in the engine compartment. Wouldn't it make more sense to gather the air from a true cold air source? So to me they seem like more of a sound and look mod!! I am just going from my expeirience with american V-8's but I would be interested in seeing the dyno results of them Vs. a TRUE CAI

None of the TRUE CAIs have the filter in the engine bay. Unless your defination of engine bay is different than everyone elses. Here's mine. Note. No major cutting of holes in the engine bay.
