Please review the disclaimer located at the bottom of this page for more instruction.
Reason for Recall
One of the parts of the front suspension on your vehicle which is called the transverse link may break where it is mounted to the frame. This may cause a knocking sound and abnormal steering. This may result in difficulty controlling the vehicle which, if ignored, could cause a crash.
What Nissan Will Do
In order to prevent this incident from occurring, your Nissan dealer will replace the transverse links on the left and right sides with new ones. This free service should take about two hours to complete, but your Nissan dealer may require your vehicle for a longer period of time based upon their work schedule.
What You Should Do
Contact your Nissan dealer at your earliest convenience in order to arrange an appointment to have your vehicle repaired. If you notice a knocking sound from the front of your vehicle and/or abnormal steering, you should stop driving and contact your Nissan dealer to arrange to have the vehicle towed to the dealer for repair.
If the dealer fails, or is unable to make the necessary repairs free of charge, you may contact the National Consumer Affairs Office, Nissan North America, Inc. at P.O. Box 191, Gardena, California 90248-0191. The toll free number is 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261). If you reside in Hawaii, please call 1-808-836-0888.
You may also contact the Administrator of the National Highway Traffic SafetyAdministration, 400 Seventh Street, S.W., Washington, D.C. 20590 or call the toll-free Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
Nissan recalls may apply to specific VIN ranges, and due to equipment variation, options, prior repairs, etc., your vehicle may or may not be involved in a recall. To determine if your specific vehicle is affected by any recall, please contact your local Nissan dealer. It will be necessary to supply the vehicle make, model and identification number (VIN) to the dealer.

It is also possible that you have another issue, and not the same issue highlighted by the recall, since your VIN is not one of those indicated.
Blown strut, possibly?
possibly an upper strut bearing they can make all kinds of noises, especially if you have lowered it and have actually had them out where they can get contaminated. but also check out your cv joints especially the outer rzeppa joint cause its the most common to have a torn boot seeing as that they get the most movement.
i get this noise only when give it a little gas into the turn. Took it to the dealer, they are blaming the transmission.
I have learned to live with it for 40,000kms.. hoping for the best. Dealer said because i lowered it, they will not warranty.
But it almost sounds like something is rubbing but there is no rub marks

I love reading all these messages from people about the front suspension noise that occurs in most Maximas. Its apparent there is a major problem and the only ones who notice it are us, the consumer. My dealership was too retarded to figure it out and just wanted to start replacing parts on the car, at my cost. Its one of a billion things, struts, wheel bearings, ball joints, or maybe even that cat I ran over last week. Its a headache and the only real solution would be a recall on whatever the problem. I'll wait until Nissan figures it out, but I doubt they ever will.

My max has this problem too(the loud creak when the wheel was turned all the way to my left). I know what my problem is though..I put the car up on a lift at work and found out. Try lubing the end of your steering stops, and the backing plates that the stops touch when the wheel is turned all the way in either direction. Did wonders for me. Just ask your shop to lube them at every oil change.
