The clutch fluid is located behind to the brake fluid. It is hard to see, but if you look over on the driver side and down the fire wall you will see it by the master cylinder.

Yup, you need a new clutch (unless you are lucky and your clutch fluid is low).

my clutch fluid was empty ( not that i know there was such a thing) and anyway when i poured it in the pedal still goes to the ground and i can't shift into gear unless the car is off

Thanks,
Robert

Ok. You need a haynes manuel. You must fill the clutch fluid up and then BLEED the system. There are two places to bleed the system. check www.Motervate.ca for an idea of the procedure. Right now there is no pressure in your clutch system, so the pedal is stuck to the floor.
First bleed the system. The clutch should then work. Then you have to check for leaks. You may or may not have a leak in the system. I had a similar experience, and merely refilling the fluid and bleeding the system solved the problem.

After you bleed and hopefully determine that you don't have any serious leaks, make sure to check periodically. I've had two seperate leaks.
One in the hose that connects to the slave cylinder. It was pretty major. I would lose enough fluid to bring the level from max to min after about 30 shifts.
The second is still occuring and is coming from the slave cylinder itself. This one requires me to top off the fluid about once a month. I'll get it fixed one of these days.

one other test after you bleed.
once you get the pressure back, push and hold in the clutch for about 30 seconds. If it sticks to the floor after 30 something needs to be replaced immediately. As long as your res is full when you try this you won't have to bleed it again right away.

after u put in the fluid and seal the cap, start pumping it for a very long time and life should be restored to it.

u dont need to bleed it unless u opened it up first and then pumped.

Is this true, even if his fluid got so low that air is in his clutch hydrolic system?
I never heard of this method before. Nice tip if it is true.

You could have a leak in the hose. There is a writeup on motorvate. I'm too lazy to link it right now, but If you can't find it later I will.
