I need a project for winter, any interest in gated shifters?

been a long long time since i posted. just before my hiatus, i was working on a gated shifter for you auto guys. Should i persue, or is this a "who cares" topic?

im thinking somthing like this:


not ferrari style or anything.

So, what do u guys think? someone want to donate parts...

yeah but our shifters just go up and down, not right or left. how would that work?

slice the stock shifter just below the trim and add some sort of horizontal slider and tada done and done.

yea.. that would frekain kick @$&.. ahh i hate when the a word gets *** hehe.. anyway.. yea. i would get it for my i30.. i love the gate shifter on my friends car.. but yea.. HOW IN THE HELL WOULD YOU PULL THAT OFF... also cause we have the shift lock where you have to hold the brake and press the button inorder to shift.. this mean you would have to eliminate the button.. and also at the same tiem figure out osme way to keep the gear from say.. going into reverse if i hit it will im goin like 55mph.. not a pretty sight... but hey if you do..
please let me know. .i will be 1st in line..

a gated shifter on a manual looks awesome, like Lamborghinis with the simple ball shift ****.......i was actually thinking of doing that but i cant cut metal all that great....and im not so patient

adding to the gated shifter

i know a local guy with a cnc laser a cutter i can ask him how much a lamborghini style gated shifter would cost for a 5spd 4 gen pm me with interest. if i can get enough interest i will submit a design to the guy to get the ball rolling on this.

not to sound stupid but whats a gate shifter? is that the ting where the shifter shifts in the tracks?

yes that is a gated shifter. would probably be more for show than anything but if polished would look really good

I tried making one this last year in machining class and it is a bit difficult to create the gates and still allow it to be a one-piece design...the curve going up the center was too tricky for me so it ended up being in two pieces and looks ghetto! I don't have any pics but what I was going fro would have been awesome! Gated shifters makes cars look fast no matter what engine they have! If you can do it I would definitely be interested! I was using aluminum with a SS insert where the gates would be....the SS would be rivited...Good luck and get some pics ASAP!!!!

acually i was not telling nayone but i am in the process of creating one. It wil be ready soon, and i will be able to maybe make 5 or 6 of them for pacesetter short throws.

I was talking of a 5 speed shift gate! Sorry for the confusion...

You obviously have a 5 speed....how's it coming?! I would be interested in one depending on how they look of course...what material are you making them from?!

it is comming on i have a modle i just gotten get it cut, and then i am engraving it with the numbers and all that stuff and some other stuff. i gotta get i cut at a shop, but i have better things to do right now with my money for my car.

repairs!

i should have a prototype for the 5 spds this weekend if all goes well it will be cut out of 1/4" steel so it will be durable and it will be for both sts and stock shifters price will be 50 shipped. with mounting instructions. if enough interest i can get them cnc'd out of aluminum pm me with inquiries

okay whoever makes one for the auto.. TOTALLY PUT ME DOWN.. man i hate hte HUMUNGO shifter on the auto.. cause its tooo high.... i mean it is int eh way of the tray that opens up.. so if u put a radio or sumthing htere. it gets in the way... so anyway..

if you guys can shrink the shifter down and i could pop in a new infiniti shifter.. man.. pardon me im salivating... but yea..

let me know how this goes down.. 129$ ... fine. .im still down.. super sexy...
