Just had my first experience with the Craptenzas...

On my way down I35 from Norman to D/FW to see my parents I ran into a nasty thunderstorm near Denton and had my first near wreck experience thanks to the RE92s. I was hydroplaning all over the highway at only 40mph!!! There was probably about a 30-40mph crosswind coming from the west across the highway and the rain was coming down extremely hard, but I could not believe just how poorly these pieces of crap handled on the highway. That may be the first time I have ever been nervous driving in a thunderstorm....just crossing my fingers I wasn't going to go sliding off the highway. S**T, if only I had the money for new tires...and the bad thing is that the RE92s on my car were just put on prior to me buying the car, so they are practically brand new. Sorry for the rant, but that pisses me off!

I'm glad you're okay... there've been many bad accidents involving hydroplaning, at least accidents that I know... and yeah, Potenza RE-92s are an accident waiting to happen.... I actually drove in the rain tonight and was thinking about how much safer I feel with my Falkens....

On a side note, in general, I wouldn't take the sellers' word for it that those were new tires put on the car prior to you buying em, you check the tread wear yourself for peace of mind.

Ya, the seller was a trusted friend of the family (a dealer at Sewell Infiniti) and he mentioned that they were put on recently. I took a look at them myself and concurred as it appeared that they may have had 1-2000 miles on them at the time of my purchase. Man, I don't know what to do -- I am now more convinced that I need new tires (preferrably Pirelli PZeros) just for safety and peace of mind more than for looks and performance.

Good to know then... as for new tires... I gotta say that these Falken ZEIX 512s were well worth the (little) I paid for em, compared to the Michelin Pilots or Zeros, price-wise that is....

Btw, you said "Maganflow Tips" in your sig.... and not MagNA, which is what it should be... not to sound picky or anything...

Ya, I guess the decision would most likely come down to the Falken's and the Pirelli's just due to what I have read on tire rack as well as here on the org about both being an excellent bang for the buck. Only thing is that I was planning on getting tires and rims together, but now I may not have much of a choice because I certainly don't have the money for rims let alone new tires right now.

EDIT: Sig changed, thanks for the headsup -- stupid typos.

I don't think Pirelli makes a within spec size for our Maximas...could be wrong (probably am). But the Falkens cost much less and do almost the same. I have them too and they're fantastic. I too was deathly scared of driving in rain on highways with the Potenzas, but not anymore. The Falkens are fantastic.

Pirelli PZero Nero M&S 235/45-17 Each: $127 from Tirerack.com.

I have the Falken ZE-512's in 225/50/17 on my OEM wheels (which are getting re-installed soon) and have been quite pleased with their wet/snow traction.

Glad to hear that you are ok. I am in Midlothian which is a good hour south of where you were... We had hellacious winds today. Some places reported 90mph wind gusts. Be careful and try to get your self safer tires. We tend to freak out when we know that something isn't 100% and we are in sticky situations.

I changed out the craptenzas on my wifes Spyder after her first hydroplaning experience. She now has the Falken 512's and is very happy with them. When I bought my Max, I change them out after the first week of ownership.

For the Falkens... www.edgeracing.com should have em.... I paid around $90 per tire.... but I got mine locally at Merchant's....

HotMax03, send a PM to FASHIZL, Delvin, he'll hook ya up... just tell him I told ya to talk to him. He's the manager at the Merchants in Alexandria off Route 1 in the Fort Belvoir area... shouldn't be too bad for ya to stop in there....

i have had really good performance with my Conti. extreme contacts from tire rack... 235/45/17 for $116 a pop. great in the rain, when i had them put on it rained a couple of days later and i wanted to test them i got it up to 90mph and they still had no sign of hydroplaning. dry traction is pretty good could be better however i live in upstate NY and i need a tire that car do well in the snow as well. only problem i have had is that they flat spot when it is cold.... but they are fine after a couple of miles. from what i hear michelins flat spot just like the conti's.

DON'T GET P-ZERO'S! My brother had an '87 maxima that is now dead due to the sudden loss of a sidewall at 75 mph on a corner that I routinly took at 80 in my old S-10. The tires had about 10k miles on them when it happened.

I probably could have gone another 10k miles on the Blow-tenzas tread-wise, but couldn't stand them any longer.
Accident waiting to happen the way i drive. Can you say hydroplane / power slide?

I'm on Kumho Ecstas in 235/45/17 now.
Good tires for the $$ -- great in the dry, just ok in the wet.
Should get 20k miles out of these - -which is just fine for what they do/cost.
Not sure if I'll but these again, though.
Might opt for the falkens next time and something a little softer and less harsh.

They are all season.... they're supposedly good in the snow, just ask Irish44J... he's had em in heavy snowfall in the mountains before....

I will do what I can, but unfortunately being a poor college student, funds are a little short during the school year. I will most likely have to wait until next summer when I am working full time again. Like I said earlier - I was wanting to save up to get new rims with tires as well, so I might have to rethink that after what I experienced last night.

If you feel that strongly about replacing your tires, you should just change them now and forget about rims for now. How much do you think it would cost to repair your car if you had an accident because you lost traction? I would say that your deductible would probably be as much or more than a set of new tires. Just my 2¢.

After 27,700 miles I decided it was time to change mine....(about a week ago)

Front were both bold, the rear driver tire had a nail, and the other was leaking air. That day it was raining. I was going 35 mph and i felt the car sway. When i got the new tires on, i could go fast without a problem.

Ohh. and these are 245/35/17s
