magnetic oil drain plug?

How many people here are using magnetic oil drain plug? Is that really useful for the engine?

It can't hurt. I've not looked for one for my 3.5, but I'm sure there's one that would fit.

It also helps to see if there is a problem denoted by shaving collecting at the drain plug. Was great on my motorcycle.

It also assures that only big clumps of crap will float through your system. The shavings gather on the magnet, then get magnetized themselves, then if a clump breaks off (not too hard to imagine) the whole clump is going to the system as a ... well, clump.

You don't think the big clumps are easier to get caught by the filter?

Given the longevity of the VQ engines, I wouldn't think they would wind up with that much metal in the oil. Clumps, I mean.
