when stopped, my car jerks, wtf is goin on?

Well lately I have noticed that my car jerks, when I'm at a red light or just stopped. I don't know what it is, but it feels like something is giving the car a little "shove" and this usually happens around 500-700rpm, does anyone know what's wrong?

Its not your throttle body, you have a 99... its your Coil packs that crapped out on you.

99's are notorious for bad coils.. and it sounds like you have the symptoms

They're not always going to show a code, you need to check the resistance.. you'll need an ohm meter. I think its in the stickies on how to check the.

Its not "not safe" but its not good for your engine to be running on 5 cylinders instead of 6

Try cleaning out your injectors before replacing coil packs.. I had the same problem on my girls 99. It would have a sputter to it when at the light but then smooth out when accellerating. It turned out that she did infact have a bad injector. Also when your mentioned that it just stopped at red lights, do mean the car will stall out on you?

Yeah thats exactly what I had to deal with. You have a dirty injector my friend, either clean or replace it depending on how dirty it is. Pretty soon it'll go out and your CEL will turn on and more then likely you'll get a misfire code.

ok, one thing i dont really understand yet. why is the 99 so bad for coils? is it just bad electronics or are the packs themselves bad? if its the packs, cant you just take some from a 98, or are they all the same and its the car? tia.

Is this the same problem that I am having with my 99SE...

At a stop light, in drive, foot on brake, SOMETIMES, the idle drops for about 1/2 second, kind of like a idle burp...Not all the time. If I don't use the foot brake and set the hand brake, it doesn't seem to have the same problem, at least it doesn't seem that way. Acceleration is ok.

It not all the time and usually when the idle speed is down around 600-700 (warm engine).

Cleaned the throttle body this summer and put new plugs in last summer (OEM type).
60000 miles on the car.

I replaced all the Oxygen sensors in fall.

Can coil and injector problems be so intermittent like this?

Gary

Nissan switched to a different manufacturer for the coils and I guess they did a crappy job making them. Older coils (95-98) didn't experience this problem (some people's coils needed replacing, but not a majority of them like the 99s) and Nissan won't do a recall on it

Either replace the one that is bad (if you can figure it out) with a new one or buy a used set from eBay and keep the rest as spares
