i think a bad o2 sensor always set off the CEL...well, that's what the CEL on my car is telling me

Bad O2 sensor = CEL
Dying/used up/"slow" sensor = bad MPG

I would just replace the 02 sensor. It might be going bad but not bad enough to trip the cel.

How many miles you got? It's probably O2 sensor changing time. Check the group deal thread for the GD (got mine from there)

O2 Sensors die slowly and may not trip a code until they completely die. Mine had a 165k on them and where completely plugged up and not throwing a code. When I replaced mine I got 5 mpg back.
