Transponder Key programming

I only have one key for my '01' AE so I ordered a spare from e-bay. My question is, is there a do it yourself programming method or does dealer have to do it? Also will my current key and the new key work together or will the programming make my original not work? Any help on this is greatly appreciated.

You need to have it programmed by a locksmith or a dealer.
At this time I don't belive there is a DIY method.

- The deaker (or a locksmith) has to do it
- When you go, all the keys you want to start you car have to be with you
- Once complete, all the keys you provided to the dealer will work

u shouldn't order the key. I almost did the same thing but I called a local locksmith before I ordered it. I am not sure about upper Marlboro area but there's only couple companies that does the transponder keys in Rockville. Don't get it cut from a local locksmith because the cut is not the same as your original key but the key still works. I got my 1st spare cut from this company called Armen's locksmith #301-963-8100. Cut, programing, plus the key is $75 same if I had my own key. I think he charge the lowest in the area. I got my 2nd key done at the dealer for $110 total cause I got hook up. I think $45 per key but $60 to program up to 3 keys. Lucky I am using the 1st for a remote start or I am stuck with this ugly key that's hard as hell to pull out from my ignition. If u are just using it for emergencies, just call the # I gave u. If u planning to use the key often, go to the dealer and get 2 keys and have it programed for lil bit over $200. That guy Armen does in-home service, so u don't have to come down to Rockville. Very nice guy, graved me an extra key for free.

You do not need to go the dealer. Any locksmith worth his salt will be able to help you out. It is about half the cost of going to the dealer. Like mentioned, all keys need to be reprogrammed. You can however do the remotes by yourself. Although I had to do some modifications to mine to get them to work, regardless of the "bible" procedure.

But we live in MD. We don't have many bright ppl that charges low for any type of service. My locksmith choped that key up like it's fish.....now I am left w/ a metal fish bone with the word Ilco on it.
