My 99 Maxima Gxe Slips In Snow Like Crazy
Darn This Car Didn't Come With Abs Antilock, It Skids Like Crazy, In Rain And Snow. I Already Spun Into A 360 Deg. Luckily No One Was Around, Any Suggestions To Really Improve Traction. My Old Car Was A 1993 Ford Taurus, At Least It Had Abs!!!
learn to drive better, slow down, pump the brakes, dont freak out, abs is nice though
my old max had no ABS and i handled it just fine. if you cant learn to drive in the snow....either
1. move to where no snow will come
2. dont drive in the snow, become a hermit

The right tire makes all the differance in the world. Your tires are what provides the traction, not the car. Most performance Z rated or summer only tires are not that good on wet roads. Z rubber is down right dangerous to run in the winter time. They have no traction at all, especially at low temperatures.
Run and all season M+S and the Maxima does very well in the snow. You can look up your tires performance ratings on dry, wet and snow covered roads on tire rack.

hey tom. like what u did to the front.
anyway, tires, yea change em. I have to change them too, but i'm a poor college student paying bills and too stubborn to ask the mom n pops for money. I have about 4/32 on mine and i was slipping all over a couple nights ago when it got really cold. Hopefully a good deal comes by on teh classifieds before the snow hits. *hint*hint*nudge*nudge*
recommendations??: most people like the falken ziex 512 for their superior wet handling, but there have been several complaints about treadlife. the new underdog seems to be toyo proxes4. A little more money than the falkens, but I have yet to read anything majorly negative about them. Good luck and hopefully we don't meet on the road

luckly my 95 got ABS, and it proves itself worthy already
just carefully slowing downa nd get good winter tires to cut through the snow. i got all season Copper Zeon ZPT's in 245/50/17 and they are awsome in snow. paids less then 100 each and the best bang for the buck i'd say, handle good and all which the aggressive tread pattern look aswell. good luck.

The Sad thing is NISSAN was cheap with the 4th gen and options and apprently alot of people who bought MAXIMA's new were cheap because ABS seems to be an option that not many people opted for. None the less I have ABS

But back to my poin ABS is not going to save you in the snow, sensible driving is.Here are a couple tips
Don't stomp on the accelerator pedal just go easy.
Don't Slam on your brakes suddenly but gradually apply them.
Leave sufficent room for stopping and assume your braking distances will be much longer.

ABS, when you're driving in snow, actually INCREASES your stopping distance. The advantage of ABS in snow is that you can decide which object you're going to hit, since you'll be able to steer, whereas without ABS, you're going to keep moving in whatever direction you were moving when you're wheels locked up.
Again, it's tires and skill that make the difference, not the car.
