My trunk release does not pop my trunk. I have to use my key. Today I took a shot at trying to fix it. I thought it wouldnt be a hard thing at all...haha.

The cable is fully connected. It's adjusted perfectly. It's got the right amount of slack to release the latch. I doused the latch with WD-40. Still no go. My trunklid doesnt have a 'switch' to put it in safe mode. Or if it does I'm a complete idiot and cant find it. If you're 100% sure all trunks have a safe mode switch...please post a pic of exactly where it is.

Those links tell about the switch...but like I said...it's not there for me.

I'm pretty sure its your switch. Does it make like a poping noise likes its going to open but doesn't?

Here is a pic of the switch, it's the black piece that comes down on the left. If you don't have one of these I don't know what to tell you.

How it should look:

How it looks when its locked:

Wow that sucks. Does it make the poping noise though? Do you have an alarm? If so what happens when you press the trunk pop button on the remote? Also does your trunk light come on when it's open?

It doesnt have an alarm. GXE non-standard.

When I pull on the 'popper' lever...it's pulling on the silver latch with the spring on it. It doesnt make a 'pop' sound anymore because of the wd40.

Did you put WD40 on the black piece that I posted a pic of also? The only thing i cant think is that its stuck and the silver lever that the lid closes down onto can't put enough pressure on it to open it. But you said it works fine when you use the key?

How do you know its adjusted perfect, are you sure the wire didn't stretch? I'm just throwing out stuff, I'm sure you have checked but I'm not sure what else it could be.

Yea, thats whats kicking my ass

My friend GOT in the trunk w/ a flashlite....I closed him in it...went to the pop lever...and started pulling it. He told me he saw the cable moving the latch and actually releasing the latch....but the lid isnt popping up like it should....

Okay, I don't think that is the right latch. This is what I did to unlock mine on my 97 SE.

Look, I made a page just for the trunk latch.

I appreciate your help, but still no go. I f8cked with that ^ latch too. It moves up and down just like it's supposed to, but it doesnt work from the inside when it's in the "UP" position.

Well I don't know what to tell you. Replace the whole trunk latch assembly?

Well make sure your latch are align up with your lock,if not, then loose the two 10mm screws in this pic until it open easily w/o to much force.Hope this will help.

I had a weird problem a few months ago with my trunk latch. I opened the trunk, and then went to close it after, and it would not catch. Icould nto get the trunk to lock, it would just bounce right back up. I played with the romote switch played with the key- It had no resistance- I was pissed b/c I had a trip to go on and I had no latch working- I started beating the crap outa the latch- I noticed nothing change and then the trunk started to catch again- been fine ever since- give the latch " a good talking to".

Ok - I fixed it w/ the help of slizan. The silver latch in the pics was bent VERY slightly....but enough to make it NOT release the lid.

Douse the whole mechanism with a silicone spray, wd40 might clean the gunk off but it will hold dirt, so you have to get the wd40 out. I know you fixed it but I wouldn't trust the wd40.

Well, I don't have a key lock for the trunk and I can only use a keyless or the release on the door. I had this problem a few weeks ago and I posted here warning everyone to clean/lube their lock release mechanism.

I have seen people put WD40 on their sliding glass door bottoms and rollers. Wouldn't be very long before it would get all gummed up from hair, dirt, or sand. I don't use it on bike chains for the same reason. Great to clean it though but soon after I put the silicone on or something similar like superlube.

There is a rubber washer on the striker cable. If the washer moved you won't be able to open the trunk. The washer should be right behind the ball at the end of the cable in the trunk.

Well it sux that, that didn't work for u, but it just did for me. I just moved that latch up and now my trunk release works fine. AWESOME lmao, that was the easiest fix i've ever done on my car took less than 20 seconds (most of which was spent walkin to my car). I can't believe i couldn't figure that one out on my own.

lemme tell you somethin about that trunk vallet lock.. that is the dumbest thing ever.. i came close to having to cut my trunk open over that friggin thing.. i have a shaved trunk lock, and at the time i had a box with 4 10's screwed down on all four corners.. i had to take the backseat out of my car, and with another person, kick the back of box to break some of the screws just to be able to fit an arm in there to get it open.. all because some moron hit that thing
