Oh boy let the flaming begin!!! Just a suggestion, try doing some searching on here through the stickies and through some of these pages of threads and you will find all you need to know. People really hate this question around here! Get a Berk or you can find a group deal on the Place Racing CAI in the group deals thread. I think they still have some left for your year car.

IBTL, as E55 will most definitely lock this down......

Answer: Berk or Frankencar w/Apexi filter.

I recommend the Place Racing Cold Air Intake (CAI). Go to the Group Deal section here on the org, and pray they have one left. I can't wait to get mine installed (along with Y-pipe, Stage 2 LTB, Hyperground kit)!! Always scroll thru the threads before asking questions. Many, many times the same question is asked repeatedly, over, and over, and over, and..........

From what I understand the CAI from Place Racing is the only intake that has shown any real performance gains

When my next check comes in, I'm going to try for a Place Racing CAI. If none are left, I'm probably going to pick the Berk or Frankencar (very similar to each other) along with a dry filter.

From an old comparison done by studman, that's debatable... this whole intake thing always is, that's why I shall not go further...

Although this topic has been beaten to death, I guess this is a good time to mention that I found a similar discussion on my350z.com which I found very educational----> intakes

I would think that the CAI is good for people living in an dry area where there is no heavy rain or snow ( Arizona, New Mexico etc ), it would scare me to drive with a CAI specially when raining hard or snow but may be I dont know what I'm talking about.

I have the Berk intake with midpipe, and this thing rock I defenitely feel a little more power than stock, it's very subtil though.

Cheers

Up here we receive a lot of snow during winter, which sometimes turn into slush and like today the temperature outisde is 10 Cecius, as an example today there was 1 foot of water in some area of many street because of the suddent melt of snow, and believe me in these condition the snow, slush and water can go anywhere in the engine bay and specially in the fender wall sound like a good way to blow your engine. With the minimal gain that the CAI has over the Berk or Frenken intake it doesn't worth the risk if you drive the car in winter.

Still think I'm an idiot ? Then make my day, drive your car in water, blow your engine and let me laught. Lol

Cheers

Just my 2 cents...although few folks has mentioned using STOCK intake (as they do on the Audi MSG boards), IMHO - I believe aftermarket intake provides more efficient flow and sound After I replaced my stock intake for aftermarket by BoostedTech (similar to Injen), I noticed an immediate difference. Good luck w/ your decision!

Ok here we go:

An intake is a device that allow you to get a take out lunch without opening the car windows or getting out of the car. A&W, McDonald and Burger King has a special going on with the 5 th gen max. Lol

Laught all you want, all you have to do is not drive your car through standing water and you're all set. You could aim a hose at the filter and it's not going to suck up enough water to do any harm...the only way is to put the end of the tube in water, and if you're driving in water that deep you deserve to blow the engine (Laught, Laught).
