I have a 96 Maxima GXE. Anyone know if it is possible to make my trunk look like the newer 97+. Is a way to have that hole which connects the trunk with the cabin through the rear armrest.???

My 95 max had that hole, why doesn't yours? Strange, have you looked?

My 96 has the pass-through...

And I have a GXE as well.

My friend has a 94 GXE and he didnt have a pass-through. When you pull down the armrest, the plastic piece that seals the cabin off from the trunk is actually a very stiff cardboard-like material.

We just took a utility knife and cut it out. Put some molding around the edges, it will look stock.

Good Luck.

My 96 GXE auto with C/C package has that pass through. I kind of remember it is standard on all Maxima 95 to 99, right? Maybe the very basic GXE with no option deosn't? Or could be the previous owner modified it for some reason, if you are not the first owner?

Playing devil's advocate... you know that when you pull down the armrest, there's another plastic piece that has to be pulled down? Not insulting you, just in case...

I found the 96 Maxima brochure. In the spec section there is an item "interior". In it, it says the trunck pass through is not available with GXE manual transmission. It is available with all the rest.

jiaxima96: You are right. I guess I am the unfortunate one then. I have the GXE manual. Is there a way to modify it to have that trunk pass through?

While I can't argue with the brochure, i have a 96 gxe manual and the pass through is in fact there. Pull down the rear armrest. Then pull down the plastic cover. Then like someone mentioned earlier, you'll find a cardboard covering over the trunk. I actually removed the whole covering because I installed a computer there but he had a great suggestion... take a knife to it. It's pretty thin.
