Mine is shot. It is a simple set of bushings and metal which ties the front sway bar to the front suspension. The only problem is, I can't get the old one off because it is designed to rotate, so I can't use a ratcheting wrench to get it off. Any ideas on how I can remove it if I can't get the lower half to stop spinning with every turn of the ratchet?

 

Are you trying to remove the whole link assembly off the control arm or just the bushings? The nut on top holds the bushings and should come off without the rod spinning. If you have to replace the entire link due to the ball joint failing then I believe you need a box wrench to turn it and an allen key to hold the center from rotating while you remove the assembly from the control arm.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.... I've never removed the entire assembly, just replaced the bushings, which is a very simple job.

 

Thanks for your response. I don't see anywhere on the lower half of the upper end of the link (above the ball/joint but beneath the sway bar) where an allen wrench would fit or be used. Perhaps I am not sure enough about what an allen key is. It's a hexagonal tool with a right angle in it, right? (I Googled it)- So- where on earth would one go? I'm stumped

You're right, by the way- the ball and joint is missing, so the part of the link that is on the control arm is completely separate from the part still attached to the sway bar.

I replaced the sway bar end link 6 montha ago. I dont remember any allen key required to hold one end. I do remember cutting a nut with my dremel, because it was all rusted and seized.

 

That was my solution too, but I used the recip saw to cut it off, I thought i broke mine loose, turns out I rounded the nut, so 2 mins with a saw and i was done. $25 for the whole thing at carquest and i was done.
