Hey Guys, Could any of you who have slotted, cross drilled rotors stock replacement size or the combination, please give me your opinions? I've heard the cross drilled tend to crack? I'm looking at Brembo or SP Performance, SP also has Diamond slotted? I appreciate feedback from those who actually have these types of rotors, thanks in advance.

I'm going to be using Performance friction carbon metallic pads if that makes a diffence!

get blanks. cross drilled and slotted are headache. too much noise and nobody will resurface ur rotors.

 

thanks noticed you have the drilled and slotted, do you have any cracking issues and how long have you had them? Wondering about going with just the slotted?

 

I've had drilled and slotted for about 3 months w/ PBR metal masters. I haven't had any cracking yet, and my brakes only make noise about once or twice a day.

You know, they've got brake calipers with pistons on both sides, not just one? Sometimes there are even 3 on each side. And no, the brakes cannot be done with that $10 tool that everyone on this forum suggests!

i havent inspected them lately but the setup is about 8k miles old and its been nothing but headache for me. maybe its cuz of my pads but the rotors for sure will give u a whisperish type of noise when applying the brakes and of course this can only be heard in quite streets, low speeds and windows down.

personally, my brake setup has been bothering me big time. ive got all sorts of noises, griding in the pedal...... u name it, i got it !

I went with Brembo plated, slotted and cross drilled rotors. Used Raybestos ceramic Quiet Stop pads. Have had no cracking problems on rotors in 18 months. No other problems either. I belive if you go with a good quality rotor the chances of cracking are minimal. Not only do the brakes work good but they look good as well!

 

its most likely my pads and the fact that i paired up new rotors with new pads. thats a no no.

if u want drilled rotors, go for them but know 2 things

1) they are gonna have this whisperish noise
2) u cant resurface them

I've had my brembos/metal masters for over a year. They seem ok to me

 

my friend has had brembo cross drilled/slotted rotors for a few months now, they seem to be fine.

 

so far my experience with the BREMBO slotted/cross drilled rotors has been great. ive been running them for about 8 months now with no premature pad wear or cracking at all. the braking power is SOOO much better over stock blank rotors in moderate to heavy braking. under normal braking though, i have noticed a little more effort is needed to brake because of the less surface area the pad has to grip. but man oh man these things have yet to show any sign of brake fade in the least. I usually drive spirited around the city and with my old blank rotors, i would get significant fade! thats eleminated now. i would highly recommend the brembo slotted/cross drilled if you are a somewhat spirited driver like myself most of the time. it was money well spent.

be sure that the slotting/cross drilling is done from the manufacturer or from a reputable company because improper drilling can and probably will lead to cracking and premature pad wear. i would go with brembo as they are decently priced and proabably some of the best made rotors available!

I had powerstop crossdrilled on my 240 for over a year before I sold it for my Maxima. I now have KVR cross drilled on my Max and I have never had a problem with cracking. I also recently had mine resurfaced. I don't know why people think that they can't be resurfaced. It is no harder to do than the blanks. The mechanic just needs to take his time and counter sink the holes (if they aren't already). I know many people in Texas and a few in Alaska who do it. I love my brakes. Never had a problem and much improved stopping power. As for the cracking, I am speculating that they crack under extreme, prolonged driving conditions. Such as riding brakes, or racing too much without cool down periods. I drove my max on these rotors from Texas to Alaska for 16 hours a day for four and a half days. No cracks. I have had these for about 3 years now.

 

i got my front done 1st than back regular drilled dont make no noise but drilled and sloted do
i got front drilled back driled and sloted it does make nose whene braking

 

If you have a good brand of cross drilled it all has to do with your pads, get cremics not metal. The metal ones dont go well over the holes, it rips them up for they are a soft metal. Cremics break better, last longer and produce less break dust, i have them now and want some nice rotors to go with them. Also ive heard of kevlar pads now, BULLET PROOF pads what a nice treat.

 

Good question, I am interested in getting slotted rotors.. Now I am not sure if I will or not

I've got the powerslot rotors with hawk pads. They squeal at times but they're pretty good.

 

Just put my Brembo Crossdrilled/ Slotted Brakes and metal master pads on on Saturday no squeaking yet. But its only been a couple of days.

 

Gonna bump this b!tch back up. My rotors are going and thinking about doing Brembo Drilled rotors (not slotted.) Lets get more experiences.

I have 18" Evo5's and they are tougher on the brakes. Will i see a noticeable difference by upgrading to the brembo drilled rotors?

 

wow, OK guys with the noisey rotors, obviously did NOT BED IN THERE PADS!! there is a break in procedure guys

 

You MUST Bed in the rotors, here read this, and there is really not that much performance difference from blanks and drilled/slotted, just that the drilled slotted might keep cooler and thats that.

my brembo drilled rotors are still on my old maxima....they still look perfect....breaking is so much better with them....i cant wait to put some on my new maxima....never got brake fad auto-xing with drilled rotors....with oem shizzle i get fad halfway through the course....and they can be resurfaced....they just need to take their time.....and i never had them resurfaced anyway....they never warped

Seriously, the best brake upgrade short of a BBK would be SS brake lines, ATE Super Blue brake fluid, Brembo blanks (reason why I recommend Brembo, they take the extra step of balancing their rotors) and some Porterfield R4S pads.

Anything else would be uncivilized.......
