MAF cleaning

Has anybody cleaned their MAF? I didn't want to replace it just yet, so I decided to. The hardest part was getting the driver bit to get the two screws out. Its a star with a post in the middle. Anyway, I used a vacuum cleaner and forced air through the sensor reverse of the normal intake flow. This worked pretty well, the hesitation through 3500-3700rpm is all but gone. Has anybody done this another way?

I've heard of very bad outcomes from other org members as a results cleaning the MAF. Don't mean to scare you but I thought I'd let you know.

i cleaned my old maf with electronic parts cleaner a few times and it still functions. i purchased a new one because of the updated design. i cleaned it a month ago and its still running fine. the two bits are security torx in either size 20 or 25. i pulled the sensor out of the tube, sprayed it lightly then allowed to dry for a short while.
the reason i used ep cleaner is that it is safe on plastic.

like he said, use the proper electronic parts cleaner, use common sense and you wont have any problems....

define faster? did you run at the track to compare or using a butt dyno? my car is noticeably more initially responsive with the updated one. i felt no gains except the response.

is changing the sensor enough to negate the "common" problems related to the MAF or I have to change the whole unit?
I figure changing the sensor + cleaning the unit would be a good compromise

you don't need to clean the new MAF unit

my point was changing the sensor for a new one + cleaning the unit (I keep the old one and clean it)...
or is it impossible to change the sensor without changing the whole unit???? I might be missing something here.

the MAF it self, is it only the little sensor you unclip than change than clip back in? or is this the MAF sensor that is clipped to the MAF ????? this is getting conMAFusing :P
