changing gear oil on 99

i have a 99 maxima se, and i am changing the gear oil, i took out the drain plug and a spring with a little ball bearing came out i was wondering if the little bearing should have came out or is it bad, and if it was supposed to come out does it go on before the spring or after the spring. thanks

Quique, My car has an auto, but I looked at the service manual for the MT and it shows just a simple drain-plug...are you sure you removed the right plug?

I recall somebody with the same post many months ago. You undid the wrong bolt/screw, if I recall correctly. Thankfully I think it is not a huge deal, and you may be able to just shove it back in, but I'm not positive

For anybody reading this, you should have nothing come out of the hole except for fluid. The drain plug can be kind of hard to find unless you know where it is, but pics on motorvate.ca will be of great assistance to you.

well thanks, i pulled out another bolt near there, and it also had a spring come out and i looked inside and it looked like it had a bearing inside also, so i put the bearing in first then the spring and it is doing fine now, i drove around 150 miles since and havent had any weird noises or anything yet. ill check that site you mentioned to see if i had the wrong one and which one the right one is. thanks

Yup, it did come up a couple of years back, I think IWANNABMW posted an answer to that problem. You drained the tranny using the wrong plug and you need to put the ball and spring (IIRC, in that order, but do a search in this forum for all posts by IWANNABMW to be sure). If you don't, 4th gear will start popping out.
