Please help identify this noise

Hi,

I recently started getting a noise that sounds like a rrr...rrr...rrr from the front end at around 45-50 mph. It happens when I'm just cruising, no brakes applied. I don't think it's my tires because I recently had them balanced and there's no shimmy in the steering wheel. Does anyone have any ideas what this could be?

Thanks.

Wheel bearings. Common problem in the 5th gens (not so for the 5.5 for some reason).

Sure there are 'possibilities'...some very remote possibilities are u have a diff going bad, a tire going bad, etc.....

The 98th percentile probability?? Bearings as posted above

noises

Is it coming from only one side of the car?
My 2000 Max w/ 68 kmiles, the Belt tensioner pulley is vibrating and causing a noise (rrr) from engine speeds 1000 to 2200 rpms ... I think the Bearings in the Tensioner Pulley are about to freeze up. At idle, reach into the engine comparment and put some tension on the Idler Pulley Assembly, and listen for the noise ... (it sounds like a tranny pump getting weak).

Check your tire air pressure, Low pressure will make noise. If not, Take off the tires and make sure you don't have a defected one. Happen to me in the past. Go cheapest fix first, Could be that simple.
