How to get the AC fins out?
Ok the fins on the air conditioner vents above my radio came unclipped from the main piece of the vent. You know how you can turn the tab to direct the fins to blow to they left or to the right? Well they fell off and now the air just blows straight and the pieces are just sliding around in there. How do I get the vents off so I can reatatch the loose piece? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks
Basically you cannot. I removed the center vent stack when I was installing my stereo and the same thing happened to me. Even if you do get the unit removed, the back is sealed and you cannot open it up. I just left it broken and got it replaced as a warranty repair (hehe) when I had other things fixed by the dealer.
Pull it out of the car and get all the little fins and work very carefully w/ needle nose pliers. They fall apart every time open up Shadow's dash so I've gotten used to it by now. Be careful when pulling apart though b/c they can fall down into the stereo assembly and it'll take you forever to find them all.
I've done it -
Pull the vent housing out, disconnect the Hazard and Defroster cords.
You will see two plastic tubes with a trapeszoidal-ish cage on the back - using a flathead screwdriver, remove the tubes from the fromt of the housing. There's about 6 clips you have to pry up. It's not easy, but hac be done.
Once you have the tubes off, you can remove the rings that hold the fins in place. Reassemble them (takes patience and some experimenting) and snap the tubes back on. Then re-wire and replace the housing.
It's not easy, but it can be done.
Good luck!

Are you guys talking about the little plastic fins that turn back and forth with that tab on front of the vents? What tubes are you talking about? Someone told me that the vents just snap out or somethin, I take it this isnt true? Thanks in advance for any help!
