For those who have had the warped rotor problem

First, is there a TSB for the rotors? I picked my 01 AE up from my Dad with 18K on the clock and he had just gotten the brakes serviced. The brakes were great then. Now, with 25K on the clock, I can feel the brakes pulsating and steering wheel shaking when slowing down from higher speeds. I knew it was coming though, because I've seen some of the rotor problem threads.

Second, am I going to have to replace both front and rear rotors, or is the known problem primarily with the fronts? I'm trying to save $$, but if the rear rotors have the same tendency for warpage, I might as well replace everything. I think I'll go with the Brembo blanks (who cares if they rust a little) and factory pads. I need pads in the rear now, but I'll leave the rotors if I can.

My front rotors went out at 8k. Dealer turned and was ok till 15k. Dealer turned and replaced pads. At 23k dealer replaced rotors and pads cause the roters wouldn't be legal if they turned them again. Now have 40k and they are out again (quite better mileage but still only 17k). I'll get them cut this time and replace the pads but this will be the last time. Next time I'll get after market roters and pads that are recomended here on the org. Through it all, the rears have been fine. Since most of the stopping power is in the front, the front rotors should have been bigger to dissapate more heat. But alot of things could have been better. ....

My rotors started to shake at 17k, I made the dealership replace the rotors and the brake linings! I think when they need to be replaced again I am going with aftermarket!

Let me know how it works out, good luck!

Mine started to pulse near 12K miles. I had them resurfaced (mistake #1)and it reappeared again near 20K miles. Then I bought new OEM rotors (mistake #2) just to have them warp again near 36K miles. I had them resurfaced (mistake #3) and they lasted longer this time to about 50K miles. I then faced reality and bought powerslot rotors and they lasted the rest of the time I had the 2k.

The problem with mind was primarily the fronts.

Thanx guys - I think I'll just replace the front rotors/pads and just the rear pads (since they are low). I wonder if I can get away with just replacing the front rotors and leaving the front pads since they have a lot of meat left. My rotors aren't too warped yet, maybe the pads will be OK? Advice, please.

hey dude would rec that u get some aftermarket rotors--it cost too much to get them from us-the dealer--havent really had problems with my brakes but my car has 43000 miles on it and only replaced the front brakes once at 26000 and my pads still have about 80% left---ive only had problems with the rear cuz the rotors are thin and get hot faster. but im going to but the slotted vented rotors in awile

My front rotors warped at 40K(km), the rear caliper seized at 60K(km). I am getting the SSB rotors for front and rear.

Yes. NTB00-088a, Brake Judder. Covers the brakes and rotors under the 3 year/36K mile warranty. My guess is that you are beyond the 3 year period, so go ahead and upgrade from the crappy OEM setup.
