DIY tails installed (pics)

well i decided to try the DIY tails instead of paying an absurd amount for new tailights. If anything this project taught me major patience. The worst parts were that freaking black goo and cutting the dang light cover - major PITA. But after about 4 hours heres what i came up with. Im pretty pleased with the outcome - could have turned out a little better but hey i only paid 5 bucks for the whole thing.

it's best to use a simple razor.

Anyway, good job on the DIY tails. Eventually however, they will start to annoy you. It's not a big deal to buy real clear tails. You can get them off ebay for $70 shipped today. Sometimes less. And trust me, it's well worth it. The DIY tails look like crap when compared to the real thing. Difference is night and day. You won't understand just yet, but when you do get them you'll be thinking to yourself: "WTF was I thinking?"

The only thing I can say is that they don't look horrible. However, people can always tell that one part of the tail doesn't match with the other and that it looks ghetto. Yea, I know......just keep telling yourself it doesn't................................. for now.

oh and i scored the sheet with a knife several times and then held the edge of a book along the line and pulled the sheet against it till it snapped. then i used a scissors to "fine" trim it - which proved to be impossible. that stuff splinters so freakin easily.

Looks good to me. I know they don't totally match, but to a guy with a 96 I would take what you have any day of the week. Good job!

Looks good to me. I give you props for trying that yourself. I for one don't have the patience for that. I'm have a very short fuse for stuff like that, therefore I bought mine from CM. For your first time doing this, you did a fine job.

My mis-match pisses me off.....but it works, and looks better then orange. To my suprise, most non-maxima owners never really take notice, i've pointed it out to friends and they were suprised, casue they didn't really see the difference

hey thanks man. it was frustrating for awhile. once you get the lens cut its all downhill and not to bad. but getting that cut right w/ out like a soldering iron is difficult. it took several attempts at cutting the light to get it right.

very good, they look like they came out nearly flawless, and im sure the pictures dont do them justice. i agree with Kelvo911 that you might wanna do the inside ones, then they will match and maybe u wont really have to worrie about going and buying new ones since they do cost a lot, vs a less then 10 dollar mod. just my $0.02.
