Anyone ever got the car rolling (with the key on) and dropped the clutch to start it?

Haven't tried it yet, but it just seems like a with all the computers and stuff.

Haven't tried this since I was a kid on my motocycle.

 

I have worked fine , my friends 95 maxima dont start in cold so this is the only thing he can do to start it, and it works fine no problems

its fine for the comptuer dont worry about it all it does is start the car

 

its not like if you live on a hill and youre lazy you should do it every time you get into your car tho

 

Wouldnt that by pass the choke switch or whatever the max does at start up. Ex. some with big injectors have push button starts to bypass this so they dont dump alot of fuel so they can start the car.

 

And jump start in 2nd/3rd, keep it there just long enough for the engine to start then hit the clutch. The gearing makes it easier to jump the car in a higher gear.

the parking lot was too flat, i was too tired and didn't have any help...

so my wife brought our suburban and we pull started (from 2nd gear) and it fired right up... within the first 30 feet.

the funny thing is that my wife said she didn't even notice the difference pulling it! gotta love lotas torque!!!

 

saw some guys trying to push start a automatic. laughed at them.

shoulda told 'em to push the left side of the brake pedal ... thats where the clutch is in an A/T... ha!

 

when i was visiting pakistan last year i was the only one pushing the accord to start it. i had to do it 3x by myself and finally got it to start. in my br-in-laws eclipse he had to do it every time to start for about 3 months. even got random people at the shopping mall to start it. it can easily be done.

 

Did it on my 00 without issue. I also saw a guy with an old porsche who used to do it quite often at an apartment building I lived in.

 

Pop starting a car isn't good for it, but it's not bad to do in a pinch.

As for the automatics, older American cars (~60's and earlier?) were capable of this, as they had two pumps in the transmissions; one of them worked off of the driveshaft. You needed some good speed (~30mph), but it was definitely possible. They stopped making transmissions with the dual pump design; I think it was to lower the cost of manufacturing.
