Walbro 255 Fuel Pump Problem.. Fuel Pump filter fell off pump
Walbro 255 Fuel Pump Problem.. Fuel Pump filter fell off pump
I recently put in a GSS 342 Walbro 255 Fuel Pump and ran into a slight problem with the filter that connects to the pump not wanting to stay on.. If you know what I am talking about, there is a "nipple" on the pump that the "filter/screen" connects to.. Well the connection at the point was not very good.
Tonight I was almost on Empty, so I filled up my car with gas and after about 10 seconds of diving the car started jerking really bad, no power and it died about 15 seconds later.. I then could not get the car to start and right then I knew it was a fuel problem, which immediately led me to believe that is what happened and sure enough I was right. I pulled the pump and looked in the tank to see the filter sitting in there disconnected.
Has anyone ran into this problem? Or anyone have any ideas on how to make a better connection? Any help is appreciated
Thanks,
-Nick

I am not sure I know what you are talking about. I reused all stock items from the stock pump.. Only thing new is the actual fuel pump itself. I did not recieve anything besides the pump when I got it. I am going to make some calls to automotive stores around and see if I can get a new filter for the pump.

Well there is a little plastic tube (the fuel pickup) that is on your stock pump, it attaches with a little clip washer to the pump and has the rectangular screen on the end of it to keep debris out of the pump. The walbro pump comes with one that is the incorrect shape for our fuel tank, so you have to take the tube off the stock pump and attach it to the walbro. It is the only thing there is that can fall off the pump so that has to be what you are talking about. My question is did you attach it yourself using the clip on the stock pump, or did you use the screen/tube/washer that came with the walbro.
Neal thanks for the help. I did reuse my stock one, and it fell off. I made it work though by taking a soldering iron and "welding" a little bead around the tube. I know can hold the pump by the filter without any issues. While I was at it, I decided to put a Z32 fuel filter in. But once again I appreciate your help Neal.
