Used Maxima, New Member, New Question. Can someone help???

Hi There everyone,
I am new to this forum but I'm glad to be on this forum as I have been able to find a lot of information here..I did my research but i was wondering if someone would be able to help me out on the following questions i have:

1.) THe maxima I bought has 320,000 KMS. I guess approx. over240,000miles.
The car runs like brand new and even the transmission shifts smoothly. Whats the average life of engines/transmission on this car? I am getting the best oil as well as using 91 octane gas. But its used obviously, i dont know what grade the previous owner used.

2.) My stereo doesnt work so i ended up buying a Bose CD system out from a 97 Maxima. Will it work with my 96 and also are there any wiring dirgrams etc + instructions (how to take dash out etc.) available to install it myself.

THanks guyz..

taare

Well as a fellow Canadian taare, you disappoint me, lol! The conversion from kilometres to miles is 0.6214. So assuming your new car has precisely 320,000 km on it, that equates to 198,848 miles - a far cry from "over 240,000 miles." So based on what I see, if you maintain your car properly and the previous owner(s) took decent care of it you should be good to go for 300,000 miles.

Just interested what would possess you to buy such a high miler? Did you get a maintenance history with it? What shape is the paint and body in - any rust? How much did you pay for it?

the bose head unit will not work unless you have the bose speakers and amps to go with it.

1. stick a flat head between the top of the air vent and the dash and pry out the air vents and clock peice.

2. stick a flat head between your shifter trim and you console and pry the shifter trim out.

3. unscrew the coin trray or whatever you use it for and pull it out. there is a clip on the other side so i will take alittle force.

4. unscrew the 2 screws at the top of the chassis that holds the radio and airconditioner. and unscrew the 2 screws at the bottom of this peice. pull it out and replace the head unit.

Explain how that is possible, if you don't mind.

Thanks guyz

Thanks for your replies guyz...
rmurdoch: my bad, i am already stressed out with my exams, thank god its not math...lol. Its a 96 Maxima, one owner, original paint..beautiful condition..bought for $4200+taxes..got all service records from the date of purchase. It runs like new.

I got an oil change done from Canadian Tire..I guess I will keep changing oil every 4000 - 5000kms. The guy there asked me not to touch tranny fluid (flush /replace) on such an old car..I was thinking of getting that done too but it shifts smooth so i guess, i shouldnt bother right now with it.

For stereo: I am awaiting the Bose system from Ebay but the one i received in this car is some logic casette player and it doesnt say bose on the speakers..but i notice on fuse diagram, it has fuse for bose system, will the bose work on mine??

Thanks fellow members for helping out...it feels like a warm welcome..

If your previous head unit did not say BOSE, I highly doubt a BOSE head unit will fit. As for the tranny flush issue, supposedly if your transmission has not been serviced/flush in a long time, the dirt/grime that builds up inside actually becomes "beneficial", meaning it coats/layers/seals/protects the inside. If you were to flush all these deposits out, you would have one very unhappy transmission. I'm in a similar dilemma - I bought my Max from a guy that never seems to have flushed the tranny, so I'm not sure whether I should risk it or not. Good luck!

Changing your oil every 4,000 to 5,000 kilometres is overkill. Nissan suggests every 6,000 kilometres.

Echoing this:

Bose headunit will not work with non-bose speakers and wiring. The bose system has separate amps, different speakers, and runs on lower impedance. I know there is an adapter (Scosche) that converts a standard headunit to drive a Bose system, but I don't know if the opposite exists to fix your situation.

I do not suggest a transmission flush - only a drain/replace of the fluid. It can be argued that flushes hurt more than they help, personally I avoid it altogether and just drain/replace. It won't be quite as clean as a flushed tranny, but it will be much better than it was before.

this info helps...THanks guyz.
I'll just wait and see what happens with the bose...I think i'll just get the tranny drained and refilled in this case.

Thanks all for your feedback
