How do I tell what ECU I need

I think i may have a faulty ECU, what numbers do I need to get off of it to make sure I replace it with the right one. I saw one for a MT 96 GXE, would that work for my MT 95 SE? Is there something different? thanks for any help

i dont think you have to do anything other than match the transmission up from a 95 or 96 ecu.

Phone a dealership and give them your VIN number and see if that helps.

It is best to match:
transmission
Year
trim level (SE, GLE, GXE)
Emission spec (fed, cali) (FAQs on how to tell the difference)

It doesn't have to be exact but get it close if you are not sure. Any 95-98 ECU will run in any 95-98 car though, but some will get CELs.
