VE thermostat temp

Does anyone know the correct thermostat temperature for the VE30DE? I have read some sources saying 170 and others saying 180. What's the advantage to choosing the other temp thermostat? Thanks

becareful though, go too cold and you can cause premature engine wear.

Try to get the 170. I think Arron test some of the 170's available and found out they were still opening at 180. 180 is stock, but I think there was a TSB that said for performance to use the 170.

Just make sure you get a failsafe thermostate, its worth the extra $10 or whatever.

well stant sells a failsafe 170 (pepboys), but OEM seems to be much better quality. Maybe call the dealer and see if he has heard of it.

Is that safe for the car? I read that cars have to run at a specific temp. in order for it to run optimally. or is 20 deg. not going to make a difference?
Also, will the thermostat cause the coolant to flow sooner in order to keep the engine colder than it usually would?

Its from another car. He had to modify it to fit. But he confirmed the opening temp. before using it.

From a Nissan dealership in Puente Hills, CA. I ordered it. It's a Nismo one that I had to spend $55 on. During the winter, it took way too long for my car to heat up without a Tstat. I removed it a long time ago b/c of the bracket racing I did. Just another way to make your car more consistant in the 1/4 mile. With my Nismo Tstat and high speed cooling fans turned on, I can keep my car's temp below 165 at all times in any kind of heat. It helps. You can't do that with the stock Tstat.

That was the 160 Tstat I use to have. That came from another car at Auto Zone. The orifice was too small and it was impeding my flow. So I yanked it out.

My advice to anybody wanting a new Tstat. If you don't race your car like I do at the track, then get a 170 fail safe nice quality Tstat and you'll be set.

Not any dealership can get you Nismo parts. Sorry, it took so long for a response. I was out of town. Here is the information I saved on my computer:

-------------------
300ZX 1984-1996, Maxima 1985-1994, Pathfinder 1990-2000, Pickup V6 1990-1996, Frontier V6 1998-current, Xterra V6 2000-current

Nismo part # 21200-RS580

$67.77 from Nismoparts.com

$70 shipped from Courtesyparts.com
-------------------

I ordered mine from Puente Hills Nissan in Southern California and they shipped it to me. I don't have their number, but I remember getting it for around $60 shipped.
