Trying To Quiet My Car

I want quiet my car without losing too much flow. My muffler was perfect but i have a leak in it now and it is soooo loud, i suspect my b-piping has a hole somewhere too. Anyway i want my car to be quiet except under hard accell, just a nice deep tone. Im looking at Magnaflow but i think they might be too loud, and i dont want a stock muffler. Does anyone have something like im describing? Also if anyone has the Warpspeed cat back can you give me a review, or if you have something else tell me what it is and what you think about it. thanks.

If you got the $$$, Greddy cat-back. If not, then try a Dynomax Super Turbo w/ a really big resonator. I have a Magnaflow and its LOUD. I'm looking to get the same type of sound, but it looks like you can't get a SS, high-flow, quiet muffler without paying $$$. Don't forget about the 5th gen muffler, though they are getting a bit more hard to obtain (the 2000-2001s anyway).

Have you ever heard about using a glass pack to quiet the muffler. Im thinking it might slow things down. I really want a Magnaflow SS, they have the look i want. Is that Greddy cat-back 2.5? Where can i find the 5th gen muffler?

The 5th generation muffler you would have to look at a junk yard. I bought a magnaflow race series muffler and on my automatic it was LOUD! but on my 5 speed that i just got the muffler isnt really loud at all unless im down shifting or hitting hi RPMs. Internetautomar sells mufflers...

I saw the other thread about the glasspack or "turbopack", but no one could give any brand- or model-specific info, so I don't think I'll invest in one just yet.

You get a 5th gen muffler from a 5th gen.

I lucked out and found my 02 SE muffler with polished magnaflow tips in the 5th gen classifieds. You have to be vigilant though because there is a demand for them.

Sure, it's only about $300 or so.

Before I got my GReddy, I talked with a highly respected muffler shop in my town about an exhaust for my car. The guy has been doing exhaust since the 60s, I think and he knows his shiet.

Anyway, he said the best thing to do for both performance and sound is get a bigger size pipe (he suggested 2.5" for my car) a size 2.5" resonator and then a high flow muffler. Yes, a resonator adds about $50 or so to the cost of the exhaust, but the sound difference is pretty dramatic. It is especially good for eliminating that rasping "bees in a can" sound.

He told me the key to decent sound on am import is the resonator. If you take a look at the GReddy, it has one. Most people just go cheap and get pipe + muffler. Using a glasspack to quiet the muffler is basically the same principal as a resonator.

I do think you need to have a decent muffler, though. I imagine a resonator isn't going to help an ebay coffee can all that much.

on my VE i have the stock b-pipe, and the wsp y-pipe, and some apexi junk the old owner put on. I actually love the sound, as the car is pretty quiet with a slight growl during normal acceleration. When I open it up (enough for the intake to start growling too) it is LOUD and it sounds good.
