Squeaking noise at the front left wheel

My i30 is making squeaking noise at the front left wheel when the car is travelling slow. This squeaking noise is very high pitched. If you close the windows, you won't hear it. But from the outside, it is quite noticable. It won't make the noise when it first starts in the morning. It starts making the noise like after 15-20 mins drive.

Any ideas what could this be?

Thanks

My max was doing that for awhile, so was my last car. Never could figure out what it was, but it went away, so all good.

If it goes away when you apply the brakes, then get to a shop and have the pads replaced ASAP. The thing making the squeal sound will gouge your rotors if you wait.

I've checked my brakes and cv-boots, everything is ok. If I lift the wheel, grab it and shake, there is no play or anything.
Sound does not change if I am driving at low speed and move a steering wheel slightly to the left then to the right (shaking the car). It does not change on bumps. It does not go away if I apply brakes.
It depends on the wheel rotation, becomes higher-pitched when speed increases and after ~40mph I can't hear it probably because of a wind noise.
It reminds me rubber-to-rubber kind of sound.
Somebody told me that this is probably dirt sticking in between of the axle and hub (where an ABS speed sensor is). Does it sound true?

Could it be your serpentine belts? Have you replaced any belts recently? Are they excessively worn?

I replaced my belts recently and occassionally get some high pitched squealing sounds. Seems to have stopped now that it's been broken in.

I am having the same problem. The breaks were replaced and the problem still existed. I have no idea what it is, but I am a bit concerned.

Wheel bearing?

No, my belts do some noise sometimes after the rain, but that's not them, the sound is different

Wouldn't a bad wheel bearing make more of a grinding noise?? Anyway, i'd like to know as well. My car is making the same noise.

This has been discussed several times on here. I also suffer from this strange noise. I've had everything apart, brakes, axels ect. It will go away shortly if you remove or change your axel.

Behind the axel is a dust seal for the bearings in your hub. When you drive on the highway the bearing and hub heats up and that seal expands slightly. Over time it probably dries out slightly and makes that noise as your axel spins. If you spray WD-40 back behind where the ABS pickup ring is the noise goes away for a while. It does come back though as the WD-40 wears away.

The only solution for the noise is to replace that dust seal or remove the axel and grease the area that the seal contacts real good with a high temp synthetic grease.

I had this happen after I replaced the brakes, turns out a shield was scraping the rotor, some pliers did the trick

Just a guess but I think it's the wheel bearing. I've had some recent experience with bad wheel bearings on a couple of cars and they generally make a sound like a cupped tire when turning one way or the other. I recently replaced one the steering knuckle on my 95 Maxima with a used one it no longer made a noise like a cupped tire but made a whine like the tire was way out of allignment kind of like the big mud tires on 4 wheel drives when the drive down the highway. Got it alligned and it didn't help with the sound, replaced the wheel bearing and the sound went away.

I get that squeky stuff too and if i remember correctly i had that problem two years ago w/ my car and it turned out to be that the rear caliper was bad and was slightly touching which made the little squeky sound as if i had a little birdy in my wheel.. lol.. lol..

I had that for about a year.

Went through a whole brake overhaul hoping to get rid of the noise. NOT.

Turned out to be a bad wheel bearing. Once that was changed, no more noise.
Not sure if it was the actual bearing or a part that got changed with the bearing (ie. bearing seal).
But anyways..that annoying sound is gone! thank goodness.

I have the same problem too man! It sounds like a bird is chirping from the front tires! It's so annoying and not to mention embarassing. Does anyone know where the write-up is (if there is one) of how to replace the bearing? Please post links.

To install the bearings you need a press to press the old bearing out and the new bearing in. You can save some by removing the knuckle and taking the knuckle and the bearing to a machine shop and having them press the bearings.

I paid $35 to have the bearings pressed, some people have paid much less to have them pressed but I only found a couple of places willing and they were both in the same price range. I have seen kits online that allow you to replace the bearings without taking the knuckle off of the car, I don't know if rental stores would have these or not. This tool works much like the home made tool used here http://www.motorvate.ca/mvp.php/704 , it would save alot of time and probably wouldn't need to have the car re-aligned afterwards.

You can also get a used steering knuckle from a junk yard fairly cheap but it's pretty hard to tell if the bearings are good until you get it on the car and drive. I had to go this route last time because my old hub was bad. I paid $40 +$20 shipping and ended up replacing the bearings on it as well as they were making a whining noise.

Same thing here, the noise started after a tranny overhaul.

Well, thats my excuse for driving fast.. lol..
I dont think that is a dangerous thing.. I can solve the problem w/ 99 cents.. i can just buy some cotton ***** and stuff them in my ears so i cant hear the noise and the problem is solved.. lol..

Well, the cheap route would be to just roll up the windows, turn on the AC, and turn up the stereo.

But I like my fresh air in the summer.

Had a local shop replace the bearing. They tried to convince me it was something else but I said "Replace the F'n bearing!!" Don't remember how much it was. Didn't care at that point as I was so annoyed at it.
