Way too loud.

Still not sure how I'm going to fit that resonator in there with the piping so close to the wall there.

Maybe enough give to move it and use welded hangars to keep it in place??

I'd better go do that...

Any ideas on 3" muffler tips that look good?

Is the muffler a Magnaflow, too?

Edit: Nevermind, I see it is a Dynomax.

The current setup I have is
3" Cattman Y-Pipe
3" RT Cat (gutted itself out after 2 weeks - still looking for something else that will work - but for now it stays as a test pipe)
3" Custom mandrel bent B-Pipe
3" Louvered resonator (I'm losing power off this so I bought a straight-through magnaflow muffler to use instead)
3" Magnaflow Muffler

With this setup it is WAY too loud - cops can hear me coming a mile away and the drone on the freeway is unbearable.....not to mention my neighbors hate me.

New setup:
Cattman 3" Y-Pipe
Unknown Cat (haven't found one that works yet)
Magnaflow 3" straight through Muffler (used as resonator if I can make it fit)
Same Mandrel bent 3" B-pipe
Dynomax Super Turbo Muffler (Part #17673)

Dude, if you pull that heat sheilding out of there you can get tons of space in there. I stuffed this monster Magnaflow into the tunnel. The casing is 6" round and fits snuggly but doesn't rub or bang. ID is 3" and the case is 30" long. Its very loud but I have no res or cat. Despite the volume the sound is awesome. It is extremely deep and muscle car'ish. But the volume is getting to me. My CD player skips any time I go WOT or engine brake through the 3-4K RPM range.

What are the dems on those muffs? That Magna looks like the smallest 3" ID they sell(18") I don't know what Dynomax's are like but my guess is that will still be very loud. Let me tell you what I suggest. Forget the whole cat thing since it really bottles up power with boost. Start the b right after the y just as I have done. Return that smallish magnaflow and get the biggest you feel comfortable. With no cat there is room to get the largest 6" case muff Magna sells. As I said, the case on mine is 30" long. With the end piping it is 36". There is plenty of room. Then continue the B-pipe on toward the rear into that Dynomax you have. It will be nice and quiet and depending on what Dynomax's are like, very deep.

Unfortunately during inspection time they look under there with a mirror and look for a Cat.

Can't do that.

But thanks for the pic - that makes me feel better about making this fit.

I'll probably just leave the gutted Cat on there - it's empty right now anyway and they don't do the "pipe test" at inspection time on my car - they just plug in the ODBII Scanner and look for codes and stick a mirror under my car.

I didn't really you had to pass testing. Well then you could get a Summit Bullet Muffler. They are really short and could look similar to a cat. Maybe if you wanna go to that extent you could weld on some heat shielding stuff that makes it look like a cat.

lol.

I don't mind having a Cat at all....

The DynoMax was suggested by MardigrasMax who owned a Magnaflow before a Dynomax and said that it was far better tone and volume.

And since Mardi is the fastest recorded Maxima and the god of pushing the envelope - I'll take his advice.

Besides - I already bought it.

So you just have that muffler and then open air behind it?
Must be insanely loud....!

Put the splash guard cover of the cat over a test pipe, they will never know the difference

Yeah,. the "3" In/Out Magnaflow Catalytic Converter" is just a Carsound Cat. <Magnaflow = Carsound>

That's what I was looking at before....Unfortunately, it's 18" long - needs to be 12" Max.

Either way - since my current Cat is gutted it's basically a test-pipe anyway.

I went with this tip:

Borla 20122 - Resonated 3" inlet, 3.5" outlet.

You may be able to use the Carsound 53009. It is 13" long, but round instead of the normal oval shape. It doesn't have an O2 bung but it wouldn't be too hard to get one welded on.

Installed.

Only problem was he couldn't get the resonator to fit due to the way the pipe bent. I saw what he meant and it's kind of hard to explain...but he was right.

However- I don't think I even needed it - Dynomax > Magnaflow by FAR.

Nice tone now - a little raspier than I would like, but you can't really hear that from inside the car. The drone is 100% better. I can hear myself think now.

Exhaust looks simple - just the way I like it.

(Oh - and check my new garage floor - just finished laying the Epoxy coating a few days ago....in this pic is the first time my car's gotten to sit in the garage since I finished laying it down.)

optical illusion - it really doesn't stick out a lot.

it's slant cut and you're looking at it from the top also.

Looks good.

Did you get a cat?

What are you going to do about the resonator?

Nah - I'm just going to lave the gutted Cat on there.

And I'll probably just return the resonator to Summit.

I don't think I need it now.

The guy at the shop also informed me that I have an exhaust leak at the front of the Cat. (where Cat meets Downpipe).

So today I went and bought some Mr. Gasket (rubber/cardboard like gasket maker stuff) and cut out my own gasket.

The old gasket was fairly warped and in no shape to be reused. I made 2 gaskets, the first one sitll leaked badly and the 2nd one leaked only slightly. I gave up for now at that point.

BUT - the leak is far less now - the car is now even quieter - I can hear road noise again! But I can also hear every noise my engine makes and now I've got several new tranny/engine noises I just noticed....they probably don't mean anything, but since I just noticed them I'm worrying about them....lol
