Uinversal Joints, Replaceable or not
Uinversal Joints, Replaceable or not
Hi all: I was just reading posts on a Cressida group, I'm a member of and the subject of replaceable/non-replaceable universal joints came up. I'd like to know if the RWD Maximas have the replaceable or non-replaceable U-joints. If they are non-replaceable when/if replaced, does the driveshaft also have to be replaced too, and if so, the cost? I never even thought of this until reading it on the Cressida group. The poster did say the Cressidas after 84 had non-replaceable U-joints, which would also need to have the driveshaft replaced at the same time to the tune of $800, (surprisingly, the Wagon doesn't have this problem) Thanks .

Even staked on U-Joints are replacable, but it's best to have a drive-shaft shop do them...the u-joints in my dad full size pontiac wagon were staked in, and a drive-shaft shop replaced his for a total of $35 labor, he provided the parts...
U-Joints
I checked locally and they want $200.00 to install new yolks and a greasably joint at the front! I just ordered a one piece complete shaft with greasable u-joints from Driveshaft Specialists Inc., San Antoino Tx. for $239.00 delivered to my door. Anyone should check into alternatives before going to Nissan, as they quoted me $789.00 for a new one.
Driveshaft specialist said they build a one piece to replace the 2 piece, and have had no problema, so it makes one wonder why Nissan put in a 2 piece???
