Broken crank snout in a VG motor

Has anyone here ever seen this happen?

I have a 93 GXE with a broken crankshaft. Took me and a buddy forever to find the problem. The car would actually still run, although not very well. Finally noticed the crank pulley was wobbling during a compression check, which yielded numbers like 75PSI across the board. When the crank bolt was removed, the end of the crank just fell off.

Obviously this engine is junk now. I think it would be way too much trouble to replace the crank in a 192K motor when a salvage yard replacement will be nearly as cheap.
Thoughts?

Hi,

how did the crankshaft broke,

did you do anything to make the crankshaft broken,

was the crankshaft already broken when you bought the car,

most likely the accessory belts were over tightened or possibly it had been hit somehow in the past. either way, i'd just go to a salvage yard and pick one up for a couple hundred dollars, swap it in, and call it a day.

i've heard of that happening before and that's definitely one of the few ways to destroy a vg. otherwise these engines are absolutely awesome and nearly indestructible.

As far as problems with the vg30e (there aren't that many), it is common, i bought a car with one broken, and like you, it took me forever to figure it out, and went the salvage yard route. I can get a 105K compression checked VG30e for 105.

Call 1-(918) 583-7283, it's 130 without the core/bad engine. They did have 3 they were trying to get rid of, but i saw one in front of the office yesterday, so maybe only 2 left.
