I heard it's better to replace the pads when you replace the rotors, but how about when you replace new pads, do you need new rotors???

good one maxima-ness, good one.....i'll answer the question though. you replace your brake pads only when their a. falling apart b. worn down below recommended spec, which is usually 2-3mm right before it hits the wear sensor c., overheated due to overheated rotor. if you have oem rotors you resurface them if their within spec and if you have enough pad life you scuff the pads and lubricate the shims which go on top of the pad also the shims that attach to the torque member. you just dont replace these item unless of course you like to throw your money away. my advice is pickup a service book at pep boys.

He did, but to clarify, if you replace the pads you need to resurface or replace the rotors. In order to resurface, the rotors must be within Nissan's minimum thickness specification.

But to contribute....Depending on how many miles you have on your Max, you probably will need to do something about the rotors. Our Max's are notorious for warping rotors, and it sometimes happens sooner than later. If youre already at the point of needing new pads, I would definately inspect the rotors and if you can budget it, just get some better quality rotors so you wont have to worry about going through it again, which you almost certainly will.

Some new cars require that you replace the rotors when you replace the pads. Rotors are not that expensive. However, it is standard to just cut the rotors when you put on new pads.

 

well i did cut my rotors when i did my pads...and guess what......it still drives like s*** i`m tired of stealerships and dealing with them so i`m in the market for new rotors.... just my .02

btw i found some brembo rotors on ebay for $150 a pair (front) or $250 for all four courners...what do u guys think...is it worth it...i always thought that brembo is a lot more expensive...isin't it a little bit cheap for brembo???

Dude depends where you go cause you might end up paying more for cutting them down then getting new blank ones, just upgrade to slotted and drilled or just slotted

 

easy answer get new rotors and new pads... OEM SUCKS.....I use Powerslot with Hawk pads.......

 

I have Bremho rotors + Hawk HPS pads on my front. I can truely suggest not going with Hawk brake pads since they are noisy and the brake dust is absolutely crazy. I would suggest going for one of those very established names like Raybestos (which I had earlier, in my rear now and practically no dust).

 

Brembo rotors by far outperform all other and PBR pads do the same
