Hey guys if any of you have done 6 -Speed Conv on your Maximas can you tell me on the parts needed and the cost...

 

It would be more cost effective to simply trade your car for a manual version.

And yes, this topic has been discussed previously.

 

Its alot of work and alot of money. You are almost better off buying one with the 6spd.

 

how would it be more easier my 2002 SE had 85k got it for 9k now it has 90 k ....

 

from what i understand the mounting brackets for the motor are completely different on the auto than the manual and are in the way of a swap.

Bolting it up and getting the tranny in the car is not that big of a deal, but dealing with the 02-up ECU would be a nightmare. It would go into limp mode and shut down the drive by wire as soon as it saw that its not getting any input from any of the trans sensors.

Putting a 6spd on a 00-01 Maxima has been done, check my cardomain site If you where REALLY HARDCORE bout doing this conversion, its doable but be prepared to spend big bux. At that point you are better off just selling the car and getting a manual version of it.

 

used 6spds arent that rare either

 

NOT RARE AT ALL.....I'VE FOUND TONS OF THEM BECAUSE I AM THE MARKET FOR A REPLACEMENT CAR.....so just buy a 6 speed. thats what i plan to do. I love how all these dealers try to tell me how rare 6 speeds are and thats why they command a higher price . When i run carfax on most of these cars they've been on the dealers lot for months. So if there so rare why are they not selling...

Labor should be 1-1500 and if like you said the tranny bolting on to the engine is not a big deal ,how can the ECU issue be fixed? again this is a high mileage 02 SE wiht 90 k on it now it was bought for 9k..

 

I'll do it for you for $7K. That includes all the labor. But that makes your $9K car a $15K car for not much improvement, your choice though.

I did some research on this in the past as well (I drive an auto as well), and I found a place in NY that does the conversion for about $1000-1500... I'll see if I can dig out the link to their web site...

 

Since people are on the subject. Does anyone know the gear ratio is like on the 2K 5 speed to the newer 6spd trannys?

I thought about swapping in a 6 speed in place of the 5 speed if it will drop the RPM's a bit more (and if the tranny was the right price). I was unsure how easily it would bolt into place or if the gear ratios would be worth it.
