cleaning throttle body

Roughly, how long would it take for me to clean my TB? I dont need a writeup, i need to know , is it a job that could easily be completed by a semi-handy rookie such as myself

hrm...ive already seen this thread > http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=414103&page=1
but thats not making me any more confident. If i just clean everything out with moist paper towels and NO cans of spray cleaner, will i avoid effing things up/expensive repairs. I could just leave it dirty, but i wont

I would take it to a pro. I cleaned mine and now I have an issue with high idle. But if you want to do it then I would say that it shouldn't take more then 30 mintues unless you pull the intake and then it might take 1 hour or so. If I was to do it again I would remove the battery cable and not touch the buttrfly which means you need to pull the intake to do this.

that issue is only for the 3.5. i have cleaned mine a while back with no issues. it shouldnt take more than 15-20 minutes and that includes dismantling and reassebmly the intake. a dry cloth will only take up so much buildup, i would have a can of intake/carb cleaner and at least spray the rag. when you say moist, i hope you are not talking about using water. i would also try to do it when the motor is warm. the buildup will be easier to get off that way. as a side, i remember cleaning a 3.5 throttle body a while back and never had the issues that i see some complain about.

did you tighten all the clamps back down? if you have a leak then it would cause that.

the 2 rings the go around the hose on that connect to the throttle body are tight.

rechecked the connections 1 was a little loose but my idle is still about 900, could it be that i removed the snorkle off the air intake, and there was a sensor on the snorkle? but i thought that sensor isnt used, is there someway to bypass it if thats the problem

Im going to attempt it because I know its going to be really dirty (52k) and i hate to just let it build and build, and slowly cause problems.

the air temp sensor is in the snorkel of the stock intake in your 01. it needs to read incoming air temp and cannot be removed unless you want the check engine light to trigger. removing that scoop is not going to help so i would suggest reattaching it. it helps pull cooler air over the radiator instead of the warm air that passes through the ac condenser and radiator.
