97-99 conversion to 3.5 liter

i was curious if anyone here has done the conversion from the 3.0 liter to the 3.5 from the newer maximas? i heard that the new engines fit the older 5 spd trannys? and you use a 2000 altima ecu. is this true cuz i am very interested in doing this project. anyone with info please reply

thanks.greg

Check the all motor forums to see what I mean. Yes it's been done. Yes the older 5speeds fit the 3.5L.

Most are using the stock 4th gen ECU, with, IIRC one exception, one is using the 02 ECU in his 95.

So, just out of curiousity, whre did you "hear" this?

It only fits 95-96. 97-99 are a totally different beast.

Hasn't been done on 97-99 ... Besides, we all know the 95/6's are lighter

It won't work, the 3.5L is too big

Yeah, that's a whole lot easier than the 3.5 swap in a 97-99. Something about how the 3.5 radiator is placed, it only works with the 95-96 bumper.

True, but the 5th gen headlights will work, just need to cut up the 95-96 bumper a little to make them fit. The firewall issue is not that bad though, just need to move it back about 2-2 1/2 inches for the 3.5L to fit.

The real problem is getting the 350z tranny to fit, nothing a custom driveshaft well can't fix.

Can we get that in carbon fiber?

Not only is it too big, it's too heavy for the front 4th gen suspension

the 3.5l from newer maxima's is too big for my 95? what if i get coilovers for tokicko/hr's?
and if i could get the motor for 700 dollars, that would be awesome...the only thing is, how can you tell the condition of a motor.

You need to do metallography on the cyilnder walls...

Spend 12 minutes in the All Motor Forum reading about the 3.0 and 3.5L, and swaps etc. . then come back here ...

I swar if anything happens to my current engine, I'll have no choice but to put the VQ35 in. Only problem is I take such good care of my current one.

Drain the oil & coolant, put a brick on the accelrator, leave it in neutral, go watch the news, and come back ...

Go with the coil overs. I hear they have a stiffer rebound and should support the engine weight better.

No the 3oz wont due, You'll need atleast the 9oz bottle. You'll need the final drive from the 2003 auto tranny. The shimms from a 96 tranny. The Injectors from the Pular, along with the exhaust hanger from a 01 stanza
